Description
It's always a problem grading these lovely old SKA records.
They went to lots of parties.
That means that they're a bit battered and that's why many have names written on the label.
HOWEVER... they're usually cut VERY LOUD and though they look a bit rough, they sound OK (especially if you press the "Mono" button).
This means that a 60's Ska goodie can be perfectly acceptable, even if it looks R.A.A.B.B. (Rough As A Bear's Bottom)..
Please bear that in mind when reading my descriptions.
Here we have Delano Stewart (the "Stay A Little Bit Longer" chappie) with a recording on UK Doctor Bird records from the Jamaican High Note label (despite what it says on the label). It's DB1138 from 1968.
One side is "That's Life" but it is not the Frank Sinatra song. Neither is it a tribute to a dog that says "sausages" (younger eBay browsers will have to look up that 80's TV reference).
The other side is "Tell Me Baby" which features a very nice bluesy organ. Mr Fuffy, the visiting one-eyed feral cat (see pix) seems to prefer the B side to the A side.
Both sides play very well, but look rather scruffy.
"That's Life" is the cleaner side, cut very loud so that the small scuffs and storage marks just-about disappear when you press the "mono" button. The other side has a couple of visible not-too-deep scratches which appear occasionally as a pesky click.
I suppose that I ought to grade it as a VG+ for "That's Life" and a reasonable VG for the other side. You could DJ perfectly well with both sides and it would fill the floor at any Skinhead nude limbo-dancing extravaganza.
I am not a dealer.
I am just a very old bloke thinning out his lifetime collection of STUFF before the floor collapses (or I do).
I'm selling most of this stuff for much less
than I paid for it.
What a great business plan (I don't think)!
I am certainly NOT INTERESTED IN PROFIT..
..and indeed, seldom make any!
What little profit I do make goes to help
a very splendid Wildlife Rescue Charity.
The item in the photograph is the item you will get.
I have described everything to the best of my ability, and it looks in excellent condition to me.
Please check the photographs to decide for yourself.
NO OVERSEAS bidders please.
And NO OVERSEAS bidders using UK addresses please.
I am a simple sort, and I want my buyers to be happy. If there is any kind of problem, I like to sort it out personally. I can’t do this if you’re thousands of miles away!
