1970 was a great year for pop and rock music and Simon & Garfunkel's 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' is considered among the top 3 best albums from that year. The title track became the duo's last #1 hit; and arguably Art Garfunkel's best moment (though Paul Simon wrote the song)
Produced by Simon & Garfunkel and Roy Halee, the album today may sound top-heavy and over-produced for some. What is not in dispute are the brilliant songs themselves.....highly melodic with deeply thoughtful lyrics and all superbly arranged. It is rightly considered their masterpiece.
The copy I am offering is a 1st UK pressing (S 63699) and in my opinion, among the best versions of this classic album available. The audio is distortion-free, balanced, the bass perfectly equalized, the guitars... detailed and easier to isolate.
Condition of Cover: Excellent.......first issues were all front laminated and after 45 years, there is still a mirror-like shine. Some creases are noticeable but nothing too offensive. The thin spine holds up well while the unlaminated back cover shows a bit more age. All in all, a very decent example of this delicate and fragile jacket. Original inner-sleeve is included but the record will be housed in a high quality sleeve for greater protection.
Condition of Record: Excellent (+/-) .....this is a somewhat difficult record to grade. The majority of the tracks grade Near Mint.....However, the songs, 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'El Condor Pasa', and 'The Boxer' grade slightly less due to a bit of surface noise at the start of the songs. I'm being very critical and conservative here.....most sellers would just indicate NM- and leave it at that. Believe me, I had moments of absolute astonishment at the audio while listening to this record......'Baby Driver', 'The Only Living Boy In New York', and 'Why Don't You Write Me', in particular, were quite simply a REVELATION!
