Description
Recorded in Bombay for the King record label in 1940 by the artist Simeon Jacob Kharilker (1900-1971), a leading member of the Bene Israel community. These records had very limited distribution and their existence was unknown until they surfaced about 20 years ago. No copies have been put up for sale since then. Both songs are from the Sabbath morning service and are sung in Hebrew with North Indian melodies. The mandolin player on these tracks, Abdul Rahim Tagihof (1905-1979) was a pioneer performer on some of the most successful Bollywood films of the 40s and 50s.
