Up for your consideration is a still factory sealed, original 1996 US limited edition pressing of Soundgarden's fifth studio album, Down on the Upside (A&M 31454 0526 1). This copy features the original yellow hype sticker on the shrink wrap. This was the final album the band released before their 1997 breakup, featuring a more experimental, self-produced sound that moved away from the heavy grunge of their earlier work while still maintaining that massive Chris Cornell vocal presence.

This isn't a "limited edition" because it's a special color or has bonus tracks — it’s limited because it was a one-time pressing. A&M Records produced a single run of 10,000 units in May 1996 to precede the CD release, then immediately deleted the vinyl from their catalog. It remained out of print for two decades until the 2016 reissues.

This STO1-sticker copy is the only version that features the original 1996 analog mastering, making a sealed survivor like this a genuine trophy for a 90s collector Finding an original 1996 double-LP set still in the factory shrink is exceptionally rare, especially with the hype sticker intact. This is a definitive piece for any 90s alternative or grunge collector.

I frequently get asked how I came upon so many original albums from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Well, I used to own a HiFi store (see below) and before the advent of the CD, vinyl was the best way to demonstrate HiFi, and I bought a LOT of vinyl. When a local store in Pasadena went belly up, I bought about 400 albums and stored them away in my music room, below my own collection. Last year, I opened up the doors and found what I forgot I had stored for the last 30+ years! So, I'm finally selling them off!

Because I am a collector myself, I don't just "look" at records — I play test them (when they aren't sealed!). This album IS STILL FACTORY SEALED and in pristine condition with no issues. The jacket is crisp with sharp corners and the shrink wrap is tight. It has been stored vertically in a smoke-free, temperature-controlled environment for nearly 30 years. The jacket has also been placed in an acid free outer sleeve to be used once it's opened. FYI, ALL THE PICTURES HEREIN are of the actual items.
