Description
When punk record label SST – founded by Black Flag guitarist Greg Ginn – released this album by sludge doom metal band Saint Vitus, it was baffling to many in the LA punk scene. Unlike the fast songs that characterized most punk bands, Vitus was playing extended stoner guitar solos and thick, heavy, Sabbath-y doom riffs in songs that were slower even than Sabbath. Nothing like angering the nonconformists by not conforming to their definition of nonconformity.
Vitus became one of the most influential bands in doom metal, and this album – their first featuring Scott Weinrich (from the Obsessed) on vocals – is widely considered their best. Some of Dave Chandler's guitar solos on this vinyl are absolutely freakin' breathtaking.
This specific album is in great condition. The cover has some wear and a notch cut out of the upper right corner (see closeups), the inner sleeve has some yellowing from age and only minor wrinkles, and the vinyl itself has no scratches, scuffs or defects that would affect play.
