STATUS QUO “Picturesque Matchstickable” UK Psych Canadian Pye Records NM
1968/Canada/Pye NSPL-18220….. here’s a clean original very first pressing of this rare lp . This issue was released before the Cadet Concept issue in North America and is very hard to find here. The cover is in VG++ condition with very light shelf wear/ring top and bottom, slight corner bumps/wear, very light razor cut across top right corner, otherwise the cover is solid and clean with no splits or delete. The vinyl is in NM like new condition. Gorgeous clean vinyl has had maybe a handful of plays if that. Plays with clean fidelity. The "deep groove" labels are clean with only a couple of very light small spindle marks. A KEEPER COPY! Please check my auctions for other psych, prog, and rock lp’s. Status Quo's debut album featured none of the band's better-known boogie rock of the mid-'70s. Picturesque... is a psychedelic effort that tries to imitate the sound bands like the Bee Gees or the Beatles were doing at the moment. With this record, Status Quo surprisingly had its first (and last) hit in America, the single "Pictures of Matchstick Men," which peaked at number 12 (it reached number seven on the British charts). Other highlights from the album are the second single, "Ice in the Sun," and the Bee Gees cover "Spicks and Specks." Even if this is not the most representative album from Status Quo, it is a good psychedelic pop exercise that sometimes includes very imaginative guitar phrases ("Ice in the Sun"), and some brilliantly unusual sounds (the epic "Paradise Flat").

GRADING
MINT: I consider only New Unplayed or Sealed items.
NM OR M- or Mint Minus is the same to me, very clean with clean visual appearance and sound, there may be a couple of light inaudible hairline scuffs or such and will be mentioned in the listing, a Mint- record looks and plays clean. Same for the cover. Very clean with no delete or other issues.
EXCELLENT: still very collectable for most, visually and sonicly clean. A handful of light inaudible scuffs, or hairlines. Cover will be clean with little wear, or delete. No splits.
VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal wear, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have a few minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much. Cover will have slight shelf wear, and or delete, minor split.
VG+ the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects.
