''THE SPENCER DAVIS GROUP''  ''THE 2ND ALBUM'' 1st UK PRESSING  ((MONO))  CAT NO TL5295 ON THE ORIGINAL FON TANA LABELS (1966) NEAR MINT  VINYL! UNBELEIVABLE 

BARELY EVER PLAYED!!

Here is another from my personal collection of records that I have accumilated over a period of more than 35 years! I have accumilated more than 50,000 albums UK alone!  Here on offer is the second album ever released by The Spencer Davis Group in 1966. An unbeleivable 42 years old, and the most collectable and sought after in MONO, looks absolutely awesome, the original 1st issue thick card type cover is in at least excellent condition, the vinyl has barely ever been  played at all! Even the playing surface looks amost like new quite incredible to find, purchased from new and initially barely played and recorded to tape, then stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the cover and sleeve for protection for over 35 years. This is how I have always stored my records!!  Play tested at very loud volume on a top system  prior to listing, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge!!  The audio was very near perfect throughout on my system, cristal clear and very vibrant, no clicks or pops , no distortion!!  Very highly collectable like this especially in this condition!!!!!  

The Spencer Davis Group was a mid 1960s British beat group from Birminproducer.gham, England. In their heyday the group consisted of Spencer Davis, Steve Winwood, Muff Winwood and Pete York; Jimmy Miller was their producer!!

Spencer Davis (born 17 July 1939, Swansea, Wales) moved to Birmingham from London in 1960 to study. In 1963, he recruited the Winwood brothers and started the Spencer Davis Group. The band performed regularly in the city and were signed after an appearance in a local club!!.

The group's first professional recording was a cover version of "Dimples", but they came to success at the end of 1965 with "Keep On Running", the group's first number one single. In 1966 they followed this with "Somebody Help Me" and "When I Come Home". For the German market the group released "Det war in Schöneberg, im Monat Mai" and "Mädel ruck ruck ruck an meine grüne Seite" (the first is from a 1913 Berlin operetta, the second is a Swabian traditional) as a tribute single for that audience, Spencer Davis having studied in West Berlin in the early 1960s!!.

By the end of 1966 and the beginning of 1967, the group released two more hits, "Gimme Some Lovin'" (which was re-released in a live, nine-minute version by Steve Winwood's Traffic in 1971) and "I'm a Man". These tracks proved to be their two best-known successes, especially in the U.S.!!!

In 1967, Winwood left to form Traffic; his brother Muff moved into the music industry as A&R man at Island Records. In a so-called joint venture, the soundtrack to the film Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush featured both bands!!.

Despite the Winwoods' departure, the Spencer Davis Group continued performing and released more singles, though not repeating earlier successes. These included "Time Seller" in July 1967; the b-side, "Don't Want You No More," was also given some airplay!!.

This was followed by "Mr. Second-Class" in late 1967, which was heavily played on Radio Caroline (at that time one of the two remaining pirate radio ships off the British coast) and the group's last minor hit, "After Tea", in 1968. The latter song was released at the same time by the German band The Rattles, providing competition that led finally to a temporary stop to all activities of the band!!.

Davis continued working, however, producing some jazz-oriented albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s!!

The vinyl

This lays perfectly flat on the turntable! Important note! this is the original thick and chunky type of vinyl only found like this on the earliest pressings these have deeper grooves than later reisues and are much more robust!

On initial inspection this looks superb retaining its glossy apearance from new! Any marks that could possibly be seen under a strong light would  be sleeve removal, light whyspy scuff marks only, importantly (no) nasty needle scratches at least none that would cause any loud clicks or pops!

The Audio

I have played this vinyl track for track at very loud volume on a top system, importantly, using a dedicated mono cartridge! Having  played this album over 36 years ago, I was eager to hear this album again after all these years!   It is truly awesome cristal clear and vibrant throughout with absolute  near perfection on my systems, a real deep bassey feel, only found like this on the earliest pressings!!     (none) of the usual crackle or pops during the audio that are normally associated with vinyls of this age! Any static was very minimal in between tracks only just superbe throughout! These awesome tracks brought back memories of my youth absolutely superbe!

In my opinion this plays with true excellence! I played this through two times prior to listing at very loud volume on a top system ! The audio is cristal clear and extreemely vibrant throughout! This plays without any signs of distortion and i heard  (no)clicks or pops during the audio at all!  The audio is cristal clear and vibrant all the way through with (no) signs of grooveware or that this has been overplayed at all ! There is (no) Distortion and (no) loud clicks or pops during the play of the audio and certainly (no) jumps or skips,  Very Light static only, may be evident during some of the quiet parts but nothing in my opinion that spoilt the overall enjoyment Truely awesome  bassey feel only found on these 1st pressings in my opinion due to the charactoristics!,, Pressed from the earliest matrix also the materials used to press these early pressings are more thicker and heavier with deeper grooves produce the best for audio quality!! I would class myself as highly critical please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see that i normally get it right! I would grade the audio quality at least excellent Plus, to near perfect for the most part in my opinion!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case all of its storagelife!,, with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover! This is how i have always stored my records! A build up of dirt and dust over the years from laying dormant causes static crackle! A constant clean before each play is recomended!,, from my personal experiance this greatly reduces this static and subsequently enhances the audio quality!!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the odd very light static (not consistant throughout the audio! Please remember that this is a genuine 1st press that is 46 years old and would have originally been played on a 46 year old system, also it is important to note that this vinyl has barely had only minimal play only, unbeleivable for a 46 year old record!

The labels

These are the original 1st issue black\silver Fontana labels. in awesome condition, barely a handful of spider marks only, can be seen only angled  to the light! Little if no spindle ware the hole is perfectly round!!

The Cover!

This is the original Laminated front 1st press THICK CARD TYPE  cover with pasted at the rear! (only 1st press) ! (no) splits tares or nasty  handwriting and amaizingly (no) real nasty creases to talk of so very hard and almost impossible to ever find like this! maybe just a hint of staining\fading with age but nothing that is noticable unless scrutinised! This must grade as Excellect if not better!!!!
