THE VELOURS

CAN I COME OVER TONIGHT
WHERE THERE'S A WILL (There's a Way)

Onyx 512

GRADE: M-

DESCRIPTION: This incredible group were originally from the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn and although they never scored any major chart hits, they are fondly remembered for their variety of vocal group romantic ballads, novelty numbers, and up-tempo jump and rockin' songs. Original members, Jerome "Speedo" Ramos" (tenor), John Cheetom (first tenor), Donald Heywood (second tenor), Kenneth Walker (baritone), and Marvin Holland (bass) came together in the mid-'50s and began recording for the newly formed Onyx label in June of 1956. Their first single, My Love Come Back, failed to chart. In the spring of 1957, the group issued their biggest record--this record now for auction--a ballad called Can I Come Over Tonight. This is truly a work of art. Especially fantastic are the voices of Jerome Ramos, the lead singer, and Marvin Holland, the bass. Ramos' voice is one of the truly great R&B voices of the '50s. Holland's bass tricks give the song its special style, making Can I Come Over Tonight a ballad that isn't easily forgotten once heard. On the flip side is an up-tempo number, Where There's a Will, and if you think this is just a one-sided record with a fast song thrown in to fill up space, think again! This side is as good as a jump tune as the flip side is a terrific romantic ballad! You get two super--and I do mean SUPER--sides with this amazing disk. You can't have a '50s group collection without this gem sitting on your shelf. Buy it now!

CONDITION: This record looks and plays like new. Super disk!

THE LAST STRAW: I can’t believe this FANTASTIC record didn’t sell in my listing a couple of weeks ago! Well, I guess there’s only one remedy for that. For one week only, I'm drastically lowering the price! CHECK IT OUT!

Payment must be received within 10 days of the auction close date. Failure to comply with or answer seller's e-mails will result in negative feedback and notification of non-paying bidder to mediation. Winning bidder pays all shipping/handling charges. I pack very carefully, but I DO NOT GUARANTEE LOSS OR DAMAGE IF PACKAGE IS UNINSURED AND I WILL NOT REFUND MONEY TO A CUSTOMER WHO HAS LOST OR DAMAGED UNINSURED MERCHANDISE (unless the damage can be proved to be my, the seller's fault). Fees Reasonable handling fees are charged according to the size of the package. I buy new packing material and must defray some of these expenses by charging a minimal extra fee. I do not rip off customers by tacking on unnecessary charges to the shipping costs. Shipping I ship to every country in the world. In the U.S.: I ship 45s by USPS 1st class shipping. However, if requested, I will ship 45s via priority mail. I require that 78s be shipped by USPS priority mail; however, there are cases where a buyer prefers some other type of shipping, i.e., media rate, and I will oblige with the one requirement that he/she purchase insurance. Out of the U.S.: All records are shipped via airmail. Delivery I ship within three days of receiving payment--often sooner. I ship twice a week--more frequently depending on the volume of sales for that week. Refunds & Returns Refunds are given if buyer feels my description is misleading. If a record is discovered to be, for instance, a second pressing instead of a first as advertised, I will refund the money. If I have graded a record higher than it actually is, that is reason for a refund. I will not refund payment if the buyer has found another record at a lower price than the one I sold him/her; or if the buyer changes his/her mind for about buying the record for no good reason. Buyer has 7 days after record has been shipped to request a refund. Items should be returned in the packing carton and material they were shipped in.
