Description
This is a genuine BPI music industry Silver Award for UK sales of the single “Every Day Hurts”. It was issued in 1980 to Sad Cafe’s record company, RCA. This framed & glazed award is in a silver aluminium frame measuring 26x36cms.
Overall the award is in good condition. There are a few small marks/blemishes on the record and the blue fabric matte isn’t quite lying flat in places. But overall the award looks great when it’s on display, especially considering it’s now 45 years old.
BPI (British Phonographic Industry) awards are the British equivalent of American RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) awards, but are usually far rarer. This award is from an era when it was usual that less than a dozen BPI awards were issued, the others being given to the artist(s), producer(s) and management, along with a couple of other people closely involved with the record’s success. This is an official music industry award, and should not be confused with any kind of replica or ‘limited edition’ that is sold direct to the public.
I’ve never seen another genuine Sad Cafe award in all my years of collecting awards. So this is about as rare a piece of Sad Cafe memorabilia as you’re likely to find.
I’m having a bit of a clear-out of awards that I’ve had stored away for years (see my About page). So please check my ‘other items’ for more rare awards from the music industry including BPI & RIAA awards. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
