Description
This is a genuine music industry Gold Award issued in the mid 1970s by Atlantic Records (who had the distribution deal for Manticore) for UK sales of the album “Pictures at an Exhibition”. This framed & glazed award is in a gold wood frame measuring 38x43cms. Within the frame is one of the original metal mother discs used to press the LP (matrix # K 33501 A1). When I obtained the award the original frame was in very poor condition, so I had the award professionally re-framed in a near identical frame. All the contents of the frame are original including the purple fabric matte upon which everything is mounted
The frame and matte are in very good condition other than some fine dust under the glass. The record and dedication plaque are in fair condition considering they’re 50 years old – both are quite tarnished and have a number of marks & blemishes. The extent to which these are noticeable very much depends on the viewing angle & lighting, so mounted in the right place the award can still look presentable when it’s hanging on the wall.
Needless to say that this is one of the rarest pieces of ELP memorabilia you are likely to find.
I’m having a bit of a clear-out of awards that I’ve had stored away for years (see my About page). So please check my ‘other items’ for more rare awards from the music industry including BPI & RIAA awards. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
