Description

An original 1st MONO press of HITS on UK Decca from XMas1966. Matrix 1A/3A. Please note that the labels exhibit a Decca deep groove. If your copy doesn't have the deep groove then I'm afraid it is not a true 1st pressing. Reissued a squillion times - but true 1st pressings come from Xmas1966 and have a very specific cover layout. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original MONO gatefold cover with photo pages stapled in. Format indicator should show on the spine ONLY for 1st issue. There should NOT be a peephole on the rear [these are late sixties copies]. We also have the original Decca inner too. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In lovely condition and has only seen light careful use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback. Please be aware that these sixties 'hits' records have usually been murdered by this point in time. Take 'Satisfaction' - for instance - this track rarely surfaces playing clean. But I'm pleased to report that this much abused track is left very well preserved a-total-knock-out rendition.  "As Tears Go by" and 'Lady Jane' are super fussy - but this example is belting them out clean and assured. In fact 'Lady Jane' is sublime - I don't think I've ever witnessed it this clean. That's effectively the darn fussiest track of all - practically perfect. All I could witness was one tick in, literally, in the final second of 'Satisfaction'. There are many copies out there - but precious few will knock these tricky tracks out near perfect - consistently. Highly recommended!
Cover (Ex) In lovely condition and has clearly been looked after - very few original copies will be looking this tidy. Excellent retention of colours and no sign of light fade. There's a touch of laminate lift against spine edge - but no creasing at all and lies as flat as a pancake. Worth noting that the opening panel retains  superb rigidity with a nice firm edge.  The rear is equally good with no creasing or laminate lift. The interior is looking really smart with the photo pages still fully intact and attached. Edge wear is very minor. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Difficult to better I would imagine.
Inner (Vg) Tanned. Bag is present. One inch edge split.
