An impressive difficult to find

This is an impressive extremely difficult to find
long out of print n/mint Australian 1983 compilation Vinyl,
12",LP record from
Riptides titled Riptides.
Manufactured in Australia on Regular Records by Festival Records.,
[cat# L-38445].
A bouncy collection of fast, fun and very danceable/pogoable surfie/ska/punk songs
from the ex-Brisbane outfit The Riptides.
The sound is one of quick & jangly surfie-style guitar stabs bouncing along to pulse-quickening punk/ska beats,
with bits and pieces of Ramones,
The Specials and early Clash together with plenty of 60s garage,
all pretty much in line with the revival that was going on in the early 80s.
Fans of Sunnyboys and/or Australian Crawl may already know about The Riptides,
who played live all over the place in the eastern states of Aus during the early 80s,
including supports for touring acts such as Simple Minds.
Being primarily a live band and not much akin to taking time off to record,
The Riptides put out this straggling collection of singles and recording studio leftovers to finally create an album
of recordings spanning from c.1980 til 1983.
Highlights are definitely the recordings on side one,
those done live to tape in Festival studios during mid 1981
as part of the Swept Away sessions.
Particularly noteworthy are "Money For Life"
and the classic surf club stomping anthem "Shake It".
Also a highlight are the liner notes by Riptides stalwart Mark Callaghan explaining the chronology of each recording.
This is great, fun, stomping music that has aged spectacularly well.
'Hearts & Flowers' and 'Tomorrow's Tears'
deserve a 5-star rating, this 1983 album, a compilation of sorts,
captures so well the sound of the time in Australia that it is really worth discovering ,
even 32 years later..
All up a great item and a must for the serious collector.
