*** Superb Greek Folk ***
Original and rare 1930s or 40s US pressed 78 rpm (sold to Greeks immigrants in the US). Recordings were made for and released in Greece on Odeon-Parlophone.
Greek Rebetika and folk music legend Markos Vamvakaris (1905-1972) is joined on side-A by Apostolos Hadzichristos (1906, Smyrna, Asia Minor – 1959, Athens) a Rebetiko composer, singer, and bouzouki player. He moved to Greece in 1922 and worked as a musician since 1933.
On side-B Markos is joined by Yannis Papaioannou (b. January 18, 1913, Kios, Asia Minor - d. August 3, 1972, Perama, Greece) was a Greek bouzouki player and prominent Rebetiko composer and Odysseas Moschonas (1912-1995).
