Pressed on Classic 200g Quex SV-P at Record Technology Inc.   Recorded during a one-year period beginning September 18, 1959, this was Roy's first hit record and his first with producer Fred Foster and Monument Records. Together, Roy and Fred had a string of hits including Lonely and Blue's "Only The Lonely," which sold over two million copies. The liner notes to Lonely and Blue state the simplicity of the recording era, with Roy using Ampex two-and-three-track stereo tape machines and microphones like Telefunken's U and M series, Altec and RCA

Classic Records has proven to be an Audiophile Company second to none in the new millennium. But Classic Records - NOW OUT OF BUSINESS, unlike other top Audiophile Companies, DID NOT place Limited Edition numbers on MOST OF their LP jackets.

What Classic Records did change for Collectors of the finest vinyl pressings was establish a First Edition element to Classic Records Audiophile pressings. SOME Classic Records titles that were only produced in 200 Gram pressings had Out of Print and Very Limited Edition Collector's First Edition WITH ORIGINAL COMPLETE SEAL packaging.

These First Editions have become some of the rarest pressings in the Audiophile Collector's Market. Just try to find them at any Audiophile Retailer after the next few months. They are simply gone from the market and Mymusicfix has seen some these First Editions sell for over $300.

All Tube mastering and cutting on the Classic vintage Stereo cutting systems at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Authentic original artwork, and labels. It would be an unpardonable oversight to overlook the contribution of Joe Melson to Roy Orbison’s meteoric rise to stardom. If you glance at the list of titles which comprise this album, you will see Joe’s name appears as co-writer on no less than five of the songs. These include “Only the Lonely”, and “Blue Angel.” Together, they developed the style of writing which has served as such a perfect vehicle for Roy Orbison’s voice.

Equally adept with rockabilly, plaintive ballads and drum-pounding rock, Roy Orbison stayed on the charts for thirty years from the very beginning of the rock era. His greatest legacy though, comes from his soaring, gut-wrenching musical melodramas. Other than Gene Pitney, only Roy Orbison was able to achieve this kind of incredible power and pathos flowing from his songs, examplified by "Only the Lonely", "In Dreams", "It's Over" and the incomparable "Crying". This early ALBUM release from Rhino brings together most of Orbison's biggest chart successes from his early years. With more than two dozen charted records to his credit, this can hardly be comprehensive but does offer a condensed cream-of-the-crop collection of hits plus some rare tracks. Orbison's vocals and the instrumental backrounds come through in startling clarity. The musical backround provided by way of the liner notes booklet follows the period of the recordings on the album. Of all the numerous Orbison Greatest-Hits anthologies available, this is the best and an excellent piece to build a more comprehensive Orbison collection.
