The Rolling Stones : Some Girls A-4U / B1U 1st Press 1978

This first pressing plays to a superb standard with a clarity, depth, power and warmth that could hardly be any better.  The only intrusion really is three consecutive light ticks on 'Faraway Eyes' but the rest of the track plays with genuine quality.  All other tracks play with exceptional audio and with barely any background.  The vinyl just has one small scuff but is otherwise in lovely condition.

The iconic 'uncensored' cover is incredibly clean with barely any wear and the inner sleeve looks brand new.

This is known as one of the early variations of the first pressing.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition overall and still has a strong glossy 'look' with no scratches.  There is a small scuff mark on the first track on S2 but it has barely any affect on the audio.  Other than that it is so clean and I can only see a small number of very faint hairlines and even they are difficult to find!  The labels are unmarked and are in superb shape.  S1 has no spindle wear and S2 only a couple of minor traces.

Play grading

The intro on 'Miss You' plays with a deep rich sound and there is no background.  Jagger's opening vocal is just as clean and it continues to play with sublime clarity and depth through every section.  A funk element to this track so as you can imagine it has a strong bass sound and the only background is a couple of mega quiet statics on the fade out.  A Mint- version at the very least.

'When The Whip Comes Down' plays with outstanding quality from the word go.  There is just one very light tick on the second vocal (you could easily miss it) and aside from that it plays with real power and depth and there is no distortion on the top end.  Mint-

The intro on 'Just My Imagination...' is faultless and the first verse and chorus have no intrusion either, a couple of barely audible dust ticks at most.  From then on it plays so clearly with genuine clarity and warmth.  Another powerful track but again the sonic quality is stunning and Mint is deserved.

'Some Girls' plays with superb audio and there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  Being 100% honest there is just a touch of inner groove distortion on the vocal which is perhaps a little more obvious towards the end.  Don't get me wrong it still plays so well, I just state any background however minor.  Maybe it was just the way it was recorded.  Near Mint is fair.

'Lies' ends the side with stunning quality from start to finish.  The power and depth is so impressive and there is no distortion here, it truly is a rip-roaring version!  Let's say Mint-

The intro on 'Faraway Eyes' is perfect and the first verse then plays very clearly with no static but there are three dull ticks, I wouldn't say clicks exactly and they are relatively quiet.  The next verse is free of any background and the chorus is more or less perfect with only a couple of very quiet statics.  The final verse has just one light static tick and the remainder plays very clearly with no real intrusion.  I was going to say Near Mint- but perhaps Ex+ is nearer the mark.

'Respectable' has only a couple of minor statics right at the start and then plays with a dynamic powerful sound from then onwards.  You can't fault the clarity either and Mint- is deserved here.

'Before They Make Me Run' plays with great quality with just one very dull tick in the middle vocal section, it's quiet and totally non-intrusive.  The depth and resonance on the audio is a stand out feature and I will grade as Near Mint

The intro on 'Beast Of Burden' plays with sublime clarity and the opening vocal is on the same level.  It continues to play with impeccable quality and there is nothing to detract from the 'as new' sound.  I can't praise this version highly enough, it is Mint from the first note to the last including the fade out.

'Shattered' plays with superb audio for a final track.  The intro / opening vocal section has no background and the mid instrumental is just as strong.  In keeping with the rest of the album the audio is strong and deep and there is no distortion.  A very powerful vocal from Jagger and the remainder plays to perfection.  A Mint conclusion to this album.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The die-cut cover is in superb condition with barely any wear.  The edges are so clean and the spine is in fantastic shape also with only one tiny rub on the top corner.  The other corners have no obvious wear and the opening edge has no handling wear.  The front cover is stunning with no wear on the die-cut sections and it has just a couple of minor crease in the top right corner that you can only see when you hold the cover at a certain angle.  The back cover is in pristine condition - this is a superb example of this iconic uncensored cover.

The 'celebrity' inner sleeve is in perfect condition with no wear at all.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
