Slight edge wear, light creases along spine edge and at center bottom, faint ring arc on top back cover. Nice copy overall. Lp newish - very little wear.
Noel Redding's heaviest post- JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, FAT MATTRESS effort, a power trio in the EXPERIENCE vein with wailing fuzz guitars, Redding on much of the vocal duties, long jams, strong songwriting, Tom Wilson production, and a powerful sound overall. A cosmic mind's dream, with songs like "Mushroom Man," "Man Dressed In Red," "Road"... the "higher consciousness" references are inescapable. Features future STRAY DOG member Les Sampson. Gaining momentum among collectors in recent years, one sold on Ebay for $67 in 2013.
This band embarked on their career with great promise and high aspirations, but their pipe dreams of world tours and global domination would prove to be just that - a fantasy. In his 1990 memoir, "Are You Experienced?", Redding recounts the making of this album as a pharma/ coke-fueled four day rush job, after which they played about one gig in Southern California, to a half-full club. Having partied through the record company advance money by that point, they were history, with no budget to tour. Redding would embark on a sporadic solo career, while making no secret of the financial inequities he felt he had suffered at the hands of his management in the EXPERIENCE days, and would spend much of the next few decades searching the world for someone to sue in a futile attempt to regain his perceived "missing Hendrix-era millions." Still, this lp is a testament to the greatness of a semi-spontaneous early 70s hard rock psych sound, and is an absolute cooker. Highly recommended for all hard rock, guitar, and psych fans!!
