RL HOT MIX Led Zeppelin II Robert Ludwig 1st U.S. edition with 1841 Broadway address on the labels. This copy has "RL" etched on BOTH sides of the vinyl indicating Robert Ludwig mastering on the whole thing, not just one side like many copies. The "SS" is on side 2 only which is common for the Presswell version. PR is on the labels that indicate this was pressed at Presswell in Ancora New jersey.
The infamous "HOT MIX" is now legendary for it's explosive sound with deep bass and full spectrum sound stage. Later pressing had the bass cut down, and the overall volume lowered. The recent pressing does not even compare to the Ludwig. It is almost impossible to find a copy of this album in nice condition, every one I have had has been played and played with tons of surface scuffs and scratches. This copy is no different, but I was able to listen to it fully to determine condition, and this thing definitetly rocks despite the G+ grade.
VINYL in G+ with several hairline scratches and scuffs. This causes background crackle throughout, but does not overwhelm the listening experience in my opinion. The record was mastered so hot, and the music itself is recorded loud and full, so there are very few quieter sections where the background crackle is that noticeable. When the music is rocking, the crackle is way in te background. There was one skip I detected on "Living Loving Maid", just one jump, but that is all I heard on my turntable (A Technics with a Audio Technica Cartridge with 2 grams of weight). The very beginning of side one is noisier (pretty common for most records), then cleans up a bit, there was some repeat crackle noticeable in quieter section of "Whole Lotta Love". The end of "Thank You" that closes Side 1 has noticeable crackle at the end of the song where it fades out then comes back in.
COVER in VG with staining, rubbing, light ringwear on the back, rubbing on top and bottom seam, bottom seam split 9" from the opening, spine has area in the middle where record started to break through, spine is still legible.

US 1st pressing (with the 1841 Broadway address on the labels), featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.On some copies the Sterling Sound credit, "SS", appears in both runouts following Ludwig's "RL", and on others the "SS" appears only in the Side Two runout. The "RL" will still appear in both runouts.
This sub should only be used for copies with "RL" in both runouts, as only these are the true "RL" pressings which command hundreds of dollars (albeit in Near Mint condition). Later transitional pressings which featuring "RL" on only one side and another engineer's work on the other should receive their own subs.
"PR" in label matrix denotes a Presswell pressing.
"LW" in runouts indicates Longwear Plating metal parts.
"AT" in runouts indicates Atlantic Studios mastering
"W" in runouts indicates that blank lacquers came from the company Audiodisc.
