Description
This auction is for a rare test press copy of the debut 7" EP by RETOX on Three One G. There are 5 tests total which was manufactured by Pirates Press.
Retox formed in 2011, originally out of founding members Justin Pearson's and Gabe Serbian's disappointment that their previous band Head Wound City was too short-lived and wanted to rehash that sound, though this sound evolved over time and with the addition of Thor Dickey and Michael Crain. The band released a self-titled EP and their debut album Ugly Animals that year through Ipecac Recordings, a California-based record label co-founded by Mike Patton and Greg Werckman. Ugly Animals was self-funded by the band members and recorded on analog tape to capture the aesthetic of the band that could not be captured digitally, a decision made by engineer Manny Nieto.
Album bio:
There is a relationship between society and the music it creates. Where it’s simply music, and not a revolution, it is a revolutionary tool. More importantly, music is an effective form of communication and a means of emotional expression. A stern “f*ck you” to the powers that be is an obvious reaction to modern times. Retox is that reaction to stagnant and boring cultures, as well as the countercultures that have slipped into a sea of pointlessness. The band is a reaction to the world that the members and their comrades live in: lives littered with frustration; lives soaked in violence. Featuring members of acts such as The Locust, Rats Eyes, Head Wound City, Holy Molar, All Leather, Some Girls, and The Festival of Dead Deer. With violent music, as with Retox, there is no choice but to retoxify.
