RCA LSC-2449, stereo. Made in USA.
dead wax stampers: 1s, A1//1s, A3. Indianapolis on both sides.
Record looks near mint , shiny surfaces. no scratches, just a few light inaudible surface marks. No visible spindle marks.
The record plays with mostly quiet surfaces.
Cover is beautiful near mint - with a trivial paper crease front lower left , tad bit of edge wear.
This Carmen Suite on RCA LSC-2449 is one of my favorite recordings. I have been collecting these audiophile records for about 23 years since 1987. This is definitely one of the most dynamic that I have heard. I especially like the horn that plays before Carmen's appearance on the stage. It starts out from off-stage in the rear and gets closer to the front until it is in your living room. When I first started collecting I came across a list of favorite RCA recordings by J.A. Mitchell. It is called "The Golden Era of RCA Records." Mr. Mitchell comments on the Carmen/Faust LSC-2449:
"If I had to pick one record to demonstrate the quality of RCA records in the Golden Era, it would probably be this one. It was recorded in Covent Garden in London and the recording engineer is not identified, but I would guess Wilkinson. The Carmen music has a tremendous dynamic range and definition is excellent throughout the record. However, it is the quiet sections of the music which will delight you with its accurate tone color and stereo ambience."
[I visually grade the record in good light. I play grade the record by spot checking several areas, especially areas that have marks. I listen using Grado SR325 headphone w/Grado headphone amp, on a Well Tempered Turntable & arm, mcz Grado cartridge. These are very revealing headphones allowing me to hear any surface noise, although from a close-in perspective. Your experience may differ depending on your system. I clean the record if needed to determine the general condition. Most will improve with your preferred cleaning method.]
