Fire And Water was the third and most successful album by the revered English rock band Free. It was their true breakthrough record, propelling them to No. 2 in the U.K. charts and No. 17 in the U.S. "On this album," notes bass player Andy Fraser, "our confidence came from our total belief in each other. Paul Rodgers, longtime singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with Bad Company, has partnered with 429 Records for “The Royal Sessions”—a lovingly crafted collection of classic R&B and soul songs re-imagined by the iconic rock singer recorded at Memphis’ Royal Studios, historic home of Willie Mitchell and Hi Records, with many of the musicians who played on the original tracks. Truly a lifetime in the making, Rodgers has come full circle with “The Royal Sessions” as he pays homage to the legendary hits he collected on 45s released on Stax/Volt, Goldwax and Hi Records—recordings by Otis Redding, Albert King and Ann Peebles which made such an indelible impression on the young Rodgers inspiring him to pursue a career as a singer. Produced by Perry Margouleff, “The Royal Sessions” is an extraordinary recording which captures the music in its pure form—live band and vocal takes as performed together at Royal Studios by Rodgers and an all-star roster of legendary musicians. The band is a dream lineup of those who played on the original hits dating back to the 60’s. “The Royal Sessions” is a remarkable project that came together as Rodgers was working on a solo record and producer Margouleff had just discovered that Royal Studios was still up and running under the auspices of Willie “Pops” Mitchell’s son Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell. The opportunity to record in such a hallowed place with musicians he considered personal heroes was a dream come true. The Memphis players forged an immediate bond when presented with his formidable talent and sincere love of the songs. Deeply felt, powerfully sung and expertly played, it features a cross-section of material hand-picked by Rodgers, songs of great historical significance and personal meaning.
Says Rodgers: “I really felt I had to get deeper inside myself than I ever had in my life. The end result is that recording these songs left me recharged as a singer and also as a songwriter. My favorite part was the love we could feel in the room throughout all the sessions. We all spoke the same language.”
Says Margouleff: “I wanted to make the most of this incredible opportunity so I recorded Paul and the band live in the studio. We captured the pure energy of their performance. Muddy Water Blues: A Tribute to Muddy Waters is the second solo album by Paul Rodgers, best known as the vocalist of Free and Bad Company. This album features collaborations with many other artists, including Brian May, Buddy Guy, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Richie Sambora, Slash, and Steve Miller.
Rodgers took these classic blues tunes and arranged them a little more toward rock. The album was recorded at various studios due to the many guests on the album, but producer Billy Sherwood managed to keep the sound pretty similar throughout. Muddy Water Blues was nominated for a Grammy Award.

The Queen + Paul Rodgers collaboration began in late 2004 when Queen was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame. Guitarist Brian May had previously performed with Paul Rodgers, formerly of Bad Company and Free, The Firm and The Law, on several occasions. May and Queen drummer Roger Taylor have been active in the music industry since the death of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1991 and the retirement of bassist John Deacon in the late 1990s. Following in the footsteps of Mercury is no doubt a daunting task, but fans across the globe embraced Paul Rodgers as the band performed a greatest hits tour. Resulting from the tour is this three-LP box set that includes all of the Queen classics – "We Are the Champions," "Another One Bites the Dust," "Bohemeian Rhpasody" – along with Bad Company and Free songs such as "All Right Now" and "Can't Get Enough." There are 27 tracks in all.
Can the soulful & smooth vocals of Paul Rodgers fill the void left by the operatic & theatrical singing of Freddie Mercury? Can the "band" Queen, play classic Free & Bad Company songs and still be faithful to the originals? Can these "oldtimers" still kick out the jams? Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!!
I was shocked and more than pleasantly surprised by how good this album really is. Paul Rodgers has been around for quite some time and his voice has never sounded better; and with so few really quality live recordings of Mr. Rodgers over the years, it is really a treat to hear him stretch his cords live (I apologize in advance to all the fans of Glenn Hughes, but Paul Rodgers is indeed the "voice of rock"). While no one on this planet can ever replace Mr. Mercury, Rodgers adds his own "touch" to the Queen songs. What you get is songs which really pay tribute to the original versions. Oh, and the band "Queen"?
They play through the entire set flawlessly, handling both the Free and Bad Company songs with ferocity & grace. Brain May is arguably one of rock's all time great guitarist and this recording only enhances his status (I apologize again to the late great Mr. Kosoff, Mr. Ralphs and yes, even Mr. Page, and this statement may border on blasphemy, but Paul Rodgers has never been backed by a finer fretboard wizard than Brian May). Lastly, the energy & emotion put into this performance is extraordinary. You would never guess these were "past middle age" men whipping out rockers like "Tie Your Mother Down" & "All Right Now".
And I would like to add, which for me, was the most "heartfelt" portion of the album. I think longtime Queen fans will agree.
Brian May states between songs, Freddie Mercury's mom in in the audience. For the song "Bohemian Rhapsody"...we here Freddie Mercury's voice singing from the original song. The band is playing live to it in the backround. When Freddie sings the words of the songs "momma, I don't wan't to die", I almost began to weep. Hey, I'm not afraid to admit it. It was one of the most emotional moments I have every heard on a rock recording.
For Queen fans, the album is a must for that single song alone.

During its reign in the 1970s and '80s, Bad Company recorded a number of timeless rock anthems, sold millions of records, even more concert tickets, and influenced an entire generation of musicians.
To celebrate the British rocker's enduring legacy, Rhino introduces this retrospective that spotlights the absolute best from the band's first seven albums including two unreleased tracks.
The collection spans 1974 and 1982 and features many of group's best-loved songs, like "Can't Get Enough," "Feel Like Makin' Love" and "Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy."
Longtime fans will certainly appreciate the inclusion of previously unreleased alternate versions of "Easy On My Soul" and "See The Sunlight." Both of these are different versions than the ones that appeared on the deluxe editions Bad Company and Straight Shooter, respectively.
Singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Paul Rodgers along with guitarist/songwriter Mick Ralphs, bassist Boz Burrell and drummer Simon Kirke recorded Bad Company's eponymous debut in 1973. When it was released in 1974, the album was an instant smash and climbed to the top of the album charts. Since then, it has been certified five-times platinum. It features such instantly recognizable tracks as "Movin' On" and "Ready For Love," which are included on this best of... collection.
Bad Company returned the following year with Straight Shooter, which has been certified triple platinum thanks in part to the success of such tracks as "Good Lovin' Gone Bad" and "Shooting Star." Run With The Pack, the group's third consecutive platinum album, is represented here by four tracks including "Simple Man" and "Live For The Music."
The group recorded three more albums - Burnin' Sky (1977), Desolation Angels (1979) and Rough Diamonds (1982) - which spawned several outstanding tracks included here such as like "Gone, Gone, Gone" and "Electricland.
