The Berliner Concert Grand records (1901-1903) were often brown or maroon, rarely seen in black, wich makes this one rarer.
This record was made by E. Berliner, Montreal, Canada. It features the famous baritone MAURICE RENAUD.
Very few records of Maurice Renaud survived. This is a rare piece of music history.
The record number is 5168 and the title is:
LA FAVORITE - (DONEZETTI) chante par M. RENAUD.
note that there is an error in the typing of the composer's name, one should read Donizetti
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Following a question by an Ebay member asking about the title of the song,
I listened to the record and discovered that the song recorded on the disc IS NOT from La Favorite.
The actual song recorded is : Promesse de mon avenir from LE ROI DE LAHORE, an opera by Jules MASSENET sung by Maurice Renaud
So this disc has the wrong label, it should have the number 5123.

Maurice Renaud made 52 extant records, 45 of them for The Gramophone Company (the forerunner of HMV) and seven for Pathé. Issued between 1901 and 1908, many of them duplicate (or even triplicate) the same favourite pieces, meaning that he actually recorded only 16 arias and five songs. As the duplications were issued, earlier versions were deleted, so that some of these items are now, over 100 years later, exquisitely rare. With one exception, everything is sung in French.
Even with the irregular and imperfect surface typical of the early Berliner discs (please see the pictures for condition),
this one plays loud and clear from begining to end. Good condition but don't expect hi fidelity.
