Here's a mystery...a 7" acetate/test press of a girl group covering "Hold on" by Ike and Tina Turner, and "She's not there" by the Zombies. Guessing from the song selection it's a 60s pressing...and I think the accents are Australian but hard to tell!
"Hold on" is a reasonable cover...upbeat like the original, but nothing spectacular. The real gold here is "He's not there" which is of course the female take on the Zombies classic. It's fantastic! Slow and brooding with heavy bass and a great spacey guitar solo in the later part of the song. There's a subtle psych-rock influence...so I'm guessing it's prob a late 60s press. A girl band from Adelaide called the Cliffmores did release a cover of the song....but it's a lot more poppy and nowhere near as good as this version. So it's still a mystery to me....perhaps you know more??!!
The downside here is the condition. I would rate it as Ok/playable. Some of the acetate is starting to flake off, but playing surface is intact. Slight ripple on outer edge. It has a lot of marks and numerous scratches....it's pops and crackles it's way through without skipping through.

I would never normally list a record in this condition, however it's a great cover version and I'm sure this will have value as a historical artefact to anyone who collects obscure 60s Oz music. May even have sentimental value if you know who it's by!
Possibly the only recording of this in existence??!!
