RARE! 

SONICS RENDEZVOUS BAND "CITY SLANG" 33-1/3 RPM RECORD

A GREAT FIND!

This band had only one single.

7"   33-1/3rpm     Orchide OR-1002 Detroit, Michigan 

Blue cover 1978

Original sleeve VG yellowed, bends with small tear at the top front

Vinyl VG+, scuffs and light scratches

The SONICS was a Michigan rock band from Ann Arbor made up of members from Detroit rock bands including The MC5, The Stooges, The Rationals and The UP. 

The band was active from 1975-1980.

The following information was obtained through research of Wikipedia, Detroit Punk Archives and Discogs.

Reportedly, the band only had enough funds to mix one song "City Slang". Therefore, it was pressed on both sides of the single. One side is labeled Mono and the opposite side is labeled Stereo, although both sides play the same.

The band, minus Scottt Morgan, toured as the backing band for Iggy Pop in Spring 1978.

The SONICS was made up of:

Fred "Sonic" Smith, formerly MC5- guitar/vocals

Scott Morgan, formerly "The Rationals"- guitar/vocals

Gary Rasmussen, formerly "The UP"- bass

Scott Asheton, formerly "The Stooges"- drums 

The title may have been lettered by Patti Smith "The Queen of Punk". She was married to Fred "Sonic" Smith.

The single may only have been sold at their shows, as Fred is said to have actively discouraged label interest.
