THE NAPTOWN AFRO-JAZZ QUINTET "Naptown Jazz" LP Original pressing on the private small press NAPTOWN JAZZ Record label from Indianapolis, Indiana YEAR: 1980 Cat# NJ-1001 Recorded at The Pinebook Studio, Alexanderia, Indiana COVER: Strong VG+ ( would be VG++ or better but has some noticeable yellowing and spotted stains on front and back. very, very slight ringwear and a small stain on front where a price tag used to be. No seam splits. Not bad at all !!! but not mint) VINYL: VG++/M- SUPER CLEAN VINYL !!!!!! On the whole a great copy of an ultra scarce private pressing gem that combines elements of jazz & funk with latin & afro brazilian vibes! Bid with confidence as you will NOT be disappointed! This record is much harder to catch than Billy Wooten´s legendary "WOODEN GLASS" LP. Players are: BILLY WOOTEN: vibraphone, marimba ROYCE CAMPBELL: electric guitar JULIUS ADENIYI: talking drum, percussions STEVE DOKKEN: electric bass JACK GILFOY: drums, latin percussions. Tunes are: "Praises To Buraimon Atanda Adeniyi", "ST.THOMAS" ( the Sonny Rollins classic jazz tune adapted from West Indian origins) , "YEKE OMO", "THE WORK SONG" (an exciting version of Nat Adderly´s tune with great arrangement featuring Billy Wooten & Royce Campbell, communicating with each other via a standard technique called "trading fours), "ROAD SONG" ( Wes Montgomery´s tune with a SLAMMING DRUMBREAK intro and featuring a funky bass solo by Julius Adeniyi), "CROWN ROYAL" (much sought after AFRO BOSSA JAZZ burner that's not only for the club!) "BAMBARA", "SUMMER LIGHT", "NAPTOWN BLUES", "QUIESSENSE" and "SAMBA DA RIO" (Batacuda-ish highly charged rhythms). VERY RARE JAZZ GRAIL and the only copy I have ever caught.
