Scotty Moore passed away on June 28, 2016, and this is a nice tribute to him.  I personally spoke to him in the early 1990s about this record, which he was most proud of.

The album is entitled "Elvis 1954-1955 The Beginning, Scotty & Bill."  This collection of early songs was produced in 1988 by Marvenco Records as licensed by RCA.  The record is pink vinyl.  It comes with a 12-page collector's booklet, which contains early pictures of Elvis.

Also included is a bonus -- Elvis' personal management contract, signed by Elvis and his parents with W. S. Moore, III, on July 12, 1954.  You will receive a copy of a certified reproduction. What an interesting item to add to your collection!

History

The five songs by Elvis, Scotty Moore, and Bill Black contained on this record were from a live appearance at Eagle's Hall, Houston, Texas, in March of 1955.  It took months of investigation and scores of interviews to uncover sufficient information and documentation to establish this as a fact.

The recording of this performance by the group is believed to be their very first concert ever recorded.  The only notation on the record to indicate a time or place of the recording was the announcer introducing Elvis Presley as being in Houston, Texas.

The announcer was later discovered to be Bob Winsett (Hunter), now living in Memphis, Tennessee, who was working at KPRC Radio in 1954 and 1966.  It was also established that only two musicians were playing with Elvis on the recording, indicating a time before D. J. Fontana permanently joined the group as the drummer.

Scotty Moore, the original guitarist with Elvis, was contacted for the affirmation of his appearance on the recording.  That was the beginning of hours of discovery of hereto unknown facts about the first year in the dynamic career of the three young men from Memphis.

Scotty Moore tells the story in this record of what it was like back then, how they survived weeks of playing and hoping for success and without any pay, what the audience's reaction was to this phenomena, how the first record was made, how the style of music was born, and much more.

The photographs appearing in the accompanying booklet are from the collections of Scotty Moore and his former wife, Bobbie.

Biff Collie of Nashville, TN, one of the country music world's best known voices and strongest supporters, contributed immeasurably by recalling his part in the bookings of the group in the Houston area and a one of the first ountry DJ's in the nation to play the Sun recordings of Elvis.

Fate was also kind in providing the services of Stan Kesler, author of "I Forgot to Remember to Forget: and "You're Right, I'm left, She's Gone," as producer/engineer, and to assist in the research.
