Jack Bruce, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, singer songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist (Bass Guitar, Electric Bass, Double Bass, Piano, Organ, Cello, harmonica, Clavinet, Fender Piano, Organ, Harmonium, keyboards, percussion), is an innovative rock & roll musician and highly acclaimed veteran of such iconic bands as CREAM, Alexis Korner's BLUES INCORPORATED, John Mayall's BLUESBREAKERS, WEST BRUCE & LAING, BBM and THE JACK BRUCE BAND, among others.

CREAM, the blues-rock trio Bruce formed with drummer Ginger Baker and legendary guitarist Eric Clapton in July, 1966, is credited with changing the face of rock & roll via their creative arrangements of classic blues tunes like Robert Johnson's "Crossroads," Skip James' "I'm So Glad," Willie Dixon's "Spoonful," and Albert King's "Born Under a Bad Sign."

CREAM helped popularize blues-rock and heavily influenced later blues-infused groups such as Led Zeppelin. Many of the pieces Bruce wrote for CREAM, like "Sunshine of Your Love," "Strange Brew," "Politician," and "White Room." remain among his best-known songs.

One of Bruce's periodic projects was the eponymous group THE JACK BRUCE BAND. In 1977 the band released an album on REO Records titled WHAT'S UP. featuring the following list of tracks: 1) Without A Word; 2) Johnny B '77; 3) Times; 4) Baby Jane; 5) Lost Inside A Song; 6) How's Tricks; 7) Madhouse; 8) Waiting For the Call; 9) Outsiders; 10) Something To Live For. The LP was recorded in Los Angeles in late 1976, and the demos were produced by ARTISAN SOUND RECORDERS.

At auction is an extremely rare Acetate (the initial demo, engraved on a vinyl-clad aluminum blank) of The Jack Bruce Band's HOW'S TRICKS. "JOHNNY B '77" is listed as "JOHNNY B '76" on the Acetate. Additionally, the Acetate contains an alternate track titled "Blues," in place of the track "Waiting For the Call" that came out on the commercially released LP.

Since Acetates wear quickly and should be played only minimally, I have not played it or listened to the alternate track. There is no other song titled merely "Blues" anywhere else in the extensive Jack Bruce discography. In fact, until now, the band and recording staff may be the only others ever to have heard this unknown gem. I don't know how you may feel about it, but to me the thought of being the first one to hear it seems a pretty cool and exciting prospect.

For now, the song is a tantalizing mystery which remains for this auction's Lucky Winner to solve.
