RARE! 78 RPM BLACK PATTI 8035 CLARA SMITH (No. 2) "Clara Blues" / "After You've Gone Away" Condition V+ on the VJM scale below.  Record shows some scuffs and scratches,  none affecting play other than a pop on the first few rotations on the B-side.  Music plays through nice and loud with no skips. 

Labels are both in excellent condition,  the only flaw being a bubble underneath the word "Recorded" on the B-side. 

This is not the Clara Smith who recorded for Columbia.  This from the All Music Guide review of "Clara Smith Complete Recorded Works Vol. 6... "Having left some 125 recordings for later generations to study and enjoy, this passionate singer was not fated to survive the Great Depression, and succumbed to heart failure in Detroit in 1935. As if to hammer home Document's unwavering commitment to thoroughness, this collection is capped by four extremely rare Black Patti records cut in St. Paul, MN on June 27 and 29, 1927 by a different woman named Clara Smith who was accompanied by pianist Buster Lindsay and cornetist Harold Lewis." ~ arwulf arwulf, All Music Guide

Starting bid on this rarity is less than one-third the asking price of any Black Pattis currently or recently for sale, (save for my other auction!) so don't let this one get away!

 I pack 78's between cardboard, which is bubble wrapped and placed with padding in a larger box,and taped up tightly. Paypal right after auction, please.  I'll ship within 2 business days of receiving payment.

The VJM Grading System

N  As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed).

N-   Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage.

E+  Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets.

E    Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.

E-   Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches. 

V+   V+ is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and genral use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced. 

V    Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.

V-   Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level.

G+   Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches.

G    Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise.

G-   Music still prominent, but wear and scatch damage extensive.

F     Most of music remains audible over surface noise, but listening now uncomfortable.

P     Unplayable.
