PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Terry Stamp and Jim Avery hold the distinction of forming THIRD WORLD WAR probably Englands first, for real, “aggrressive and argumentative" underground band, on par with say, the MC5's '68 view, in rising-up against government supression.Formed in London in 1970, Third World War released two gritty underground hardrock albums (Fly Records and Track Records) in the very early 70s. Third World War featured an aggression unheard of at that time. With Terry Stamp’s explosive vocals, lyrics, chopper guitar style and Jim Avery’s West London, hardnut, two fisted, riff and chord approach proved unbeatable, (even fourty+ years on). Their socio-political agenda and angry guitar style prefigured the emergence of UK “working-class” bands by some 5 years. The contemporary illusion of glazed hippy inertia in the face of imminent social breakdown and rampant urban motorway-construction doesn’t hold water when the hard-nut lyrics of Third World War, another associate of the Semtex-and-spliffs crashpad of early-1970s Notting Hill, are considered. A “political underground” act, they were able to write excellent, sensitive melodies, but in general their music and lyrics were ugly and real – like life itself. On “MI5’s Alive” they bemoaned “kissing the monarch’s ass…letting the bad air out”. These august commentators shared bills at free festivals with proto-crust pioneers Pink Fairies and East of Eden, but most notably featured at the Police Ball benefit for Oz magazine with Arthur Brown, Viv Stanshall, the Pink Fairies, Egg, Roy Harper and Gnidrolog. The record begins with “Ascension Day” - and that's “ascension” as in “rise up, revolt.” It's a power-to-the-people song, unspecific in everything but the stated methods: “Waiting on the rooftops, looking for a sign / Pull your hand-grenade pin, I’ll pull mine / Power to the people, when we rise / Power to the poor, when we rise… There’s people out of work here / There could be a riot here / Very soon, you know, there could be a riot everywhere.”
Terry Stamp is described as playing something called “chopper guitar” and that's how it sounds. On “Ascension Day” his guitar is a chainsaw, hacking up the chords and spitting them out with out with an uncompromising position. This is the most powerful track, a magnificent piece of rock music, perfectly balancing its inner intensity with an outward nonchalance.
The other musicians, Avery on bass and Mick Lieber on lead guitar and Fred Smith on drums, have just enough competence to mirror their desires. Terry Stamp’s voice drawls, leers, snarls, and grunts in the very loosest approximation of “singing” but his intentions are beyond question. CONDITION: The cover: Fragile delicate UK cover is laminated...after 43 years, shows light useage. give it a VG++ rating ...bit of minor handling crinkles in the lamination which you commonly see in 40+ year old overseas (laminated) covers ... no split seams, no writing, fresh colors ...
The vinyl: shiny surface, side one is "EX" (excellent) and better, side two is VG++ would grade "EX" (excellent) if not for a couple of discoloration spots in the vinyl ... expect play grade to be excellent/enjoyable. Both UK FLY labels are clean
