On offer here is one of the true 'Holy Grails' of Beatles collecting. This auction is for a 100% authentic BLANK BACK copy of the Beatles VeeJay album 'Introducing the Beatles'!
Due to Capitol initially wanting nothing to do with the Beatles, producer George Martin went around smaller US labels trying to find out that would release their music. After searching he found VeeJay, a small gospel label, that took the group on along with Frank Ifield. However, after a disastrous initial release of two Beatles singles they held back and vaulted it.
When Capitol started whipping up the huge promotional campaign for their album Meet The Beatles, VeeJay suddenly released that they had a massive goldmine on their hands, and plans were initially drawn up to issue the tracks they had as an album. Production started instantly so that they could capitalise as much as they could on this sudden interest, but after record pressing began and 5,000 covers were already printed it transpired that no back slick had been prepared. To keep production flowing, and whilst a back cover design was quickly designed, VeeJay used their standard inner sleeve advertising design for the back cover (known as the 'Ad Back' sleeves). However, when these were exhausted, and with the back cover design still unfinished, printers were told to literally just paste a blank white slick on the back as a stop-gap until the designs could be made.
Less than a week after Introducing the Beatles was released VeeJay were issued with a restraining order to halt production and distribution as they did not have the publishing right to two tracks they had used (Love Me Do and P.S. I Love You).
Because of this, version 1 copies of Introducing The Beatles are in themselves very hard to find. However, is it near-impossible to find the original ad or blank back sleeves since most of them either got caught up in the recall or have been lost, broken, damaged, scribbled on etc. Most people who got the blank back sleeves took it upon themselves to write in the track listing on the back, which makes this particular sleeve on offer even more desireable as the back is still clean and free from any writing or stains!
Make no mistake. This is an exeptionally rare Beatles LP with a fantastic backstory, and is highly collectible!!

The cover is showing your usual wear and tear for a 50+ year old record but, overall, is holding up okay. The front has a nice, rich colour to it and has some light wear and some disc impression with a little bit of knocking in the corners. The top seam has worn through quite badly and is beginning to split in the middle. The bottom seam is showing some wear and tearing to the card but has not split. The spine is almost fully legible with a few wear spots obscuring some of the text and is holding tight with no serious splits or tears. The back cover is beautifully snowy clean with no stains or writing of any kind, although there is a small crease in one of the corners which I've photographed. The back covers were notorious for getting written on, most particularly the song titles, so to find one in this incredible, clean condition is very hard to do! Overall, showing some wear, but holding up okay.
This is a 100% authentic sleeve with the correct texture, spine print and 1/4" overflaps at the top and bottom of the inside of the mouth, picture showing this can be seen above.
Inner Sleeve : P The original VeeJay inner sleeve is included purely so that the set is complete. First impressions is that the sleeve looks pretty good, however, for some reason someone has trimmed each side right down and also repaired a tear at the bottom corner with tape. Like I said, this is the original VeeJay inner sleeve and is included so that the set is complete, but be aware of what I've said above. To be fair though, these inner sleeves are not unique to the record and can be found quite easily. Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : G+/VG-
The disc has lost a little of its original shine and has a fair amount of light scuffs and marks, but there's nothing heavy or serious or anything.
This is a 100% authentic version 1 disc of Introducing the Beatles with the 3/4" wide dead wax, the 'Audiomatrix' machien stamp and the circled MR logo indicating that this disc is a Monarch press.

The labels are looking good for their age. There's some light wear and spindlemarks, and a few spots of light staining, but overall the labels are looking pretty bright.
