"PUPPET PARADE" RADIO SHOW TRANSCRIPTION DISCS FROM WORLD BROADCASTING SYSTEM INC. ONE COMPLETE 30 MINUTE RADIO PROGRAM ON THESE TWO 16 INCH, ONE SIDED 33 1/3 RPM DISCS. VERY RARE!
These rare discs contain the audition program for a radio show titled "Tony Sarg's Puppet Parade". Tony Sarg was a German American puppeteer and illustrator. He was described as "America's Puppet Master", and in his biography as the father of modern puppetry in North America.
This radio program was based on Tony Sarg's puppets and about the puppet's lives off stage. The program is introduced as "In Just A Moment We Are Going To Take You To The Workshop Of Your Old Friend, The King Of All Marionette Makers, Tony Sarg". "Here Stands Tony Himself To Present The Newest, Funniest and Most Exciting Show In Radio, The Private Lives Of Tony Sarg's Marionettes"
The only reference I to this radio show could find is a feature in the February 1, 1938 Radio Daily Publication: "CBS Options Tony Sarg Show: Sound Masters Inc.has sold an option on "Tony Sarg's Puppet Parade" to Columbia Artists inc. Teddy Bergman, program director of Sound Masters, is to handle all production. The program is an original musical fantasy which deals with the imaginary private lives of Tony Sarg’s marionettes" Base on this, I suspect these discs are from 1938, possibly earlier
The end of the program features Tony Sarg thanking potential sponsors for their interest in the radio program. It is stated that it is an audition program produced by CBS
