Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years! 1st UK pressing of Queen's Debut album "Queen" on the original EMI labels. This album was purchased from new and originally only ever played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the cover and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records! Features mega early -3U & -3U Matrix endings and the earlist possible "1" to "1" Mother stampers, Features "Kip Huggy Poo Kissy" (Earliest Possible For this side) & "again" Master pressers signatures on the run off grooves. Together with very thick and heavy vinyl (only 1st Uk pressings) This album is complete with the original 1st issue Un-laminatred Garrod &Lofthouse cover in at least better than excellent to excellent plus condition in my opinion! The audio is truly stunning through out! The audio is graded at Near Mint in my opinion! Certainly the best sounding copy that I have heard astoundingly clear a vibrant very very rare like this! No loud nasty constant clicks or pops! So rich and vibrant throughout! Looks and sounds like it has only ever been played a handful of times!  This is complete with the original plain white EMI record sleeve in superb condition. Queen is the eponymous debut studio album by the British rock band Queen, released on 13 July 1973.


It was recorded at Trident Studios and De Lane Lea Music Centre, London, with production by Roy Thomas Baker (as Roy Baker), John Anthony and Queen.




The album was influenced by the hard rock, progressive rock and heavy metal of the day. It covers subjects such as folklore ("My Fairy King") and religion ("Jesus").



Lead singer Freddie Mercury composed five of the ten tracks, guitarist Brian May composed four songs, (including "Doing All Right", which was co-written by Smile band-mate Tim Staffell), and drummer Roger Taylor composed and sang "Modern Times Rock and Roll".



The final song on the album is a short instrumental version of "Seven Seas of Rhye".



Queen had been playing the club and college circuit in and around London for almost two years when the band had a chance opportunity to test out the new recording facilities of De Lane Lea Studios. Taking advantage of the opportunity, they put together a polished demo tape of five songs: "Keep Yourself Alive", "The Night Comes Down", "Great King Rat", "Jesus", and "Liar".




Despite the demo tape's quality, the band received only one offer from a record company – a low bid from Chrysalis Records, which they used to try to entice other companies.




Mercury enlisted May and Taylor to record the tracks. These recordings were released on a single under the name Larry Lurex.




The arrangement of recording only during downtime lasted from June to November 1972. The limitations this imposed on them led the band to focus on completing one track at a time, but problems arose almost immediately.



The band had thought highly of their De Lane Lea demo tracks, but producer Roy Thomas Baker asked them to re-record the songs with better equipment. "Keep Yourself Alive" was the first song to be re-recorded, and Queen did not like the result. They recorded it once again, but during the mixing sessions, no mix met their standards until engineer Mike Stone stepped in.




After seven or eight failed attempts, Stone's first try met with Queen's approval. Stone would stay on to engineer and eventually co-produce their next five albums. Another track that proved problematic was "Mad the Swine", which was recorded for the album but then derailed by Baker and Queen disagreeing on the quality of the percussion. The song was meant be the fourth track on the album between "Great King Rat" and "My Fairy King". With the issue unresolved, the track was left off the album. It re-surfaced in 1991 as both the B-side to the "Headlong" CD single in the UK, and on the Hollywood Records re-release of the album. The version of "The Night Comes Down" which appears on the album is, in fact, the De Lane Lea demo recording, as the band were unsatisfied with any attempt at rerecording it.




Other recordings from this period, such as two Smile tracks ("Silver Salmon" and "Polar Bear"), "Rock and Roll Medley" (a live encore staple from the era), and the infamous track "Hangman" (whose existence was long denied officially, beyond live concert recordings), have surfaced in the form of acetate pressings.




Though the album was completed and fully mixed by November 1972, Trident spent months trying to get a record company to release it. After eight months of failing that, they simply released it themselves in 1973. During this time, Queen had begun writing material for their next album, but they were disheartened by the current album's delay, feeling they had grown past that stage, even though the record-buying public was just getting wind of them. They recorded two BBC sessions during the interim. The first single, "Keep Yourself Alive" (the Mike Stone mix, now considered the standard album version) was released a week before the album (UK dates, 6 and 13 July respectively). The track length was edited for release in the US, from 3:47 to 3:30. The US single was issued in October. All countries had the B-side "Son and Daughter". The album was released in the US on 4 September.




Elektra Records released a single of "Liar" in a heavily edited form on 14 February 1974, with the B-side "Doing All Right". Elektra later reissued the edited version of "Keep Yourself Alive" in July 1975, this time with the rare double B-side (rare for a 7" single) of "Lily of the Valley" and "God Save the Queen". Both versions are unique compared to the album versions.

The labels
The original custom EMI labels are in awesome condition! (These looks superb in my opinion)! Amaizingly I can just see minimal feint spider marks/trails only, even when angled to the light and of coarse little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round. This has only ever been played a handful of times only from new when I initially purchased it and one time to play grade for this listing. So rare for an album that is 47 years old! Impossible to find like this! very very collectable!One of the earliest UK pressings very rare in this condition!

The vinyl
The vinyl is absolutely superb! On initial visual inspection this looks like new and still retains its sheen from new! (please note this vinyl has only ever been played a few times by me personally and I originally played this to record to tape! In the last 45 years this has been stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the sleeve and cover to prevent ring ware and damage. This is how I have always stored my records, and of course I played this again to play grade at very loud volume on a top system! In fact even when I look at the playing surface angled to a strong light I find it hard notice any real surface marks or scratches. Any marks that could possible be seen when angled in strong light would be light whyspy surface sleeve removal type only.

The Audio Quality
I have played this through track for track prior to listing at very very loud volume on a top system! WOW!, the moment the needle hits the playing surface it is obvious this vinyl has barely ever been played at all! The audio quality is as you would expect when purchased new, superbe, TOP, TOP, TOP! cristal clear and extremely vibrant through out in fact this plays truly superb.This is without a dought the best copy that I have ever heard! This played through superb unbelievable audio seperation, that I haven't heard like this before and stunning bassey feel throughout! One of the most vibrant sounding audio copies that I have heard and early pressing makes all the difference! Even in between tracks this was lovely and quiet. This vinyl has been stored separately from the cover in a poly sleeve for over 45 years! This is the way I always have stores my records! The vibrancy of the audio on this pressing in my opinion is as good as it gets for a very early 1st issue variation! Even in between tracks this is very quiet! I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl by this awesome rock band ''Queen'' and so hard to find tlike this! Please check my completed listings of records that i have sold of this quality and you will see that i normally get it right! I would grade the audio near as mint!

Please note! That i always make this disclaimer! Allowances must be made for these mid seventies pressings. Please allow for the odd isolated static/ /tick that may be heard in quiet places or in between tracks, certainly not consistent throughout the audio. This is a genuine 47 year old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 45 year old system! Genuinly only ever played a handful of times ever!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 45 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant causes static crackle\ticks! A constant clean before each play is recommended ! This would reduce any static and enhance the audio quality!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original EMI plain white paper record sleeve, clean and straight. No splits or tears, light creasing with age only

The Cover
The original 1st issue un-laminated Garrod & Lofthouse cover. Note These covers are flimsy by nature and very difficult to keep in good condition and being non laminated are very prone to rubbing. There are (no) edge splits or tears. Note: There is some very,very light storage wear/ rubbing noted on the front, only really noticed if looked for in my opinion very light rubbing at the edges and spine only. The spine is generally lovely and square A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.! No nasty rubbing or ring wear, just very light only as previously mentioned. the rear is exceptionally clean and being primarily black this is very common if not almost impossible to find better originals) Any imperfections/rubbing edge creases, are not really noticed unless looked for in my opinion. Must be at least better than Excellent in my opinion rarely ever seen like this after 45 years old!
