Description

Welcome to my auctions- I have some interesting records that will be going up for auction this and next week, including many early Pink Floyd LPs, I'm trying to get round to list some records I have acquired over the last couple of months, so stay posted!

I use “Record Collector's” grading system as detailed below, however as I believe records can be graded between “very good” and “excellent”, so I now use “+” or “-” to attempt to catalogue an item precisely. Please note I never grade a record as “NM” (near mint) as I feel this is an extremely benighted way to grade!

  • Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
  • Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening of sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

  • Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

  • Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc...

  • Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise: it may even jump. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

  • Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc.. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

  • Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.

Pink Floyd- Atom Heart Mother LP, SHVL 781- 1st UK Press.

"Atom Heart Mother" is the fifth studio album by English progressive rock band Pink Floyd, released in 1970 by Harvest and EMI Records in the United Kingdom and Harvest and Capitol in the United States. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, England, and reached number one in the United Kingdom, and number 55 in the United States charts, and went gold in the U.S. in March 1994."

On offer here is a very tidy mid 1st UK press, which is identyfied by having No EMI labels, "The Gramophone Co. Ltd." text, "-1G" matrix codes, "7010" dating the sleeve, and Lupus Music credits.

Sleeve

The unlaminated gatefold sleeve is in Excellent condition. There are no rips or tears to note. There is only minor shelfwear, there is perhaps some signs of edgewear. When opened, there is barely any wear to note- I wish to make no bones about it- the sleeve is in extremely nice condition.

Inner

The record is presented with the original EMI Harvest company inner, this is in excellent condition, with a few light creases.

Record

The record is in Very Good (+) condition. There are a couple of light surface marks visually, but can not be “felt” to touch.

The record was played on a Project Essential record player using a Ortofon 510 MK II cartridge. The record plays very well, without any unwanted skips or jumps, and there is only some slight surface noise in the much quieter sections. The labels are nice and clean, the "Floyd" on side one is slightly faded, and there are some minor signs of spindle marks.

The record has been cleaned professionally using a Moth MK II record cleaner.

The credits state World Copyrights/Lupus Music beneath (Gilmour-Mason-Waters-Wright) on both sides of the record (please refer to the pictures). I gathered information from this website regarding the credit issue:
