Description
Paul Simon Songbook 1st Pressing MONO UK RARE CBS 1965 EX (Only One On Ebay). Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS Media Mail.
A rare find if you’re a Paul Simon fan. There is only ONE FIRST PRESSING OF THIS ALBUM, AND THIS IS IT.
MONO WITH 33 RPM on labels. NOT 33 1/3 . This appears to be a CBS demo, as original owner was in the music business. You’ll notice a stamp on one of the labels “ manufactured in Gt. Britain CBS records Ltd“ Flipback cover.
Labels are early CBS mottled orange labels. Matrices 1A 1 side one. 1 B 1 side two.
Cover has stamp on left side, appears to be Italian .
Condition is remarkably clean. Labels clean, with a few spider trails EX. Vinyl appears very clean ,has hairlines that appear to be just from removing album from original inner sleeve, still EX.It should be cleaned professionally as it has not been played in years.
Cover laminated flip backs, with the word MONO on upper right of back cover. It only has very small area 1/4 inch on two of the corners, look at pictures.
The backstory of this album you can read in what I posted in pictures.
Two of the songs became hits when they were re-recorded.
“THE SOUND OF SILENCE” before title was changed to “ THE SOUND’S OF SILENCE” plural. What’s interesting is to hear this song with just one guitar, and one vocal live, no harmony from Art Garfunkel.
“I AM A ROCK” same thing, just guitar and vocal, no orchestration or harmony.
Paul Simon used a nom de plume “ Paul Kane” on two of the songs. That’s actually Paul Simon.
This album was immediately pulled when CBS USA tried to release it, Simon did NOT want this released,as it is basically him with one microphone recording demos of his own songs.
Imagine sitting in a studio in London in 1965 with a chair, and ONE microphone for both guitar and vocal. That’s what this is. You can even hear the chair move on the floor if you listen.
Everyone of the others that are stereo ,and have 1B matrices are not original 1965 mono pressings. I assume they are rechanneled mono into stereo.
