After the release of his debut album ‘Inland’ and the equally well-rated first LP with Der Plan, the Pyrolator started summer 1981 with his work on “Ausland”. In the heat of summer 1981 the album was recorded, with the help of various international musicians, in the studios of the brilliant inventor and sound-genius Werner Lambertz on the first digital-sequenzer “Brontologic”, the first production outside the atatak-studios. The reaction of the press and the public could not have been more euphoric when Ata Tak’s tenth release ‘Ausland’ fi nally appeared at the end of 1981. Musikexpress conferred a top rating and Diedrich Diedrichsen applauded in Sounds “At last we’ve made it: a German record which one can enjoy all the more because it’s not the usual ‘well for Germany ...’ A record with qualities not yet achieved during the years of stagnation in the Germany’s New Wave music”. Even the international press is unanimous. New Musical Express’s Chris Bohn elevated Pyrolator to a “great pioneer”. Alfred Bos of the Dutch magazine Oor wrote “I don’t wish to dramatize, but this record could prove to be an important infl uence in 10 years time, just like ‘Monster Movies’ from Can or ‘The Faust Tapes’ from Faust”.  - Ata Tak

"A founding member of Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft AND a long-term part of Der Plan, the man otherwise known as Kurt Dahlke has had a big hand in the development of German new wave and post-punk. AUSLAND was his second album, following the minimal masterpiece INLAND*. For this gem, Dahlke recorded all the synth and drum machine programming into a proto-MIDI unit called the Brontologik. He then invited other musicians to add elements over the basic electronic tracks. What resulted was a varied blend of accessibility and quirkiness, with individual songs going from minimal synth to catchy electro-pop to almost no wave and everywhere in between. The majority of the tracks feature guest vocalists, ranging from the catchy to the almost grating. Other guests include Dahlke's co-conspirators in Der Plan and Frederik Nilsen from the LAFMS on "cross-string guitar"! Musically, it sounds much more high-tech than Der Plan; the synths dominate the proceedings, all sounding gloriously vintage nowadays. The instrumentals, such as the groovy "Elefantendisco" and the potent "180°", are the most effective pieces of music. Still, vocal tracks like the charming "Mein Hund", the trancey "Du Bist So... Ich Träume", and the wild "Die Haut Der Frau" are quite enjoyable! There's even time for sound collage with the odd "True Love". - Another World of Sound

GRADING:

All records are play graded conservatively - I have never had a record returned due to bad grading (and I'd like to keep it that way). If you are unhappy with the condition of a record I've sold you, please get in touch before leaving negative feedback!

NEAR MINT (NM): Like new.

EXCELLENT (EX): Otherwise NM but has slight cosmetic flaws that don't affect play. Close to perfect, with minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident. The cover might have light wear or a dented corner, but should look close to new.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+): The record has been handled and played infrequently or very carefully - there may be light marks that don't affect play, or some of the original luster may be lost. The cover will have light wear, but will still look & feel solid.

VERY GOOD (VG): Record displays visible signs of handling and playing, such as loss of vinyl luster, light surface scratches, groove wear and spindle trails. Some audible surface noise. Cover may have moderate to heavy ring wear, seam splits, bent corners, loss of gloss, stains. A VG grade doesn't mean the album is trashed; it will still play well enough to be enjoyable.

VERY GOOD MINUS (VG-): The record may have numerous scratches including heavy scratches that will tick, moderate to heavy surface noise. The cover might have large seam splits, tears, or writing on the cover that obscures the artwork. I usually don't list records in this condition unless it is an extremely rare title.
