Description

RARE ORIGINAL
- EARLY FIRST PRESSING -
...  PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED ...

- "METAL BOX" -
This is a private sale - from my own, personal, collection - I am not a record dealer. Have kept this carefully stored - barely played - since purchasing (I bought it immediately upon its release,
from the (then brand new) Virgin Megastore, Oxford Street, London in November 1979!)
'Metal Box' comes in the form of this circular film canister containing three 45 r.p.m x 12-inches (for better sound); and, even today, it still delivers sheer bare-bone power - physical rhythm, guitar ferocity and white-hot Lydon singing.
I was nervous about playing (testing) it again - on my swanky and unforgiving Bang & Olufsen turntable.
Would it stand the test of time (nearly 40 years!!)?
Answer: YES ... Still sounds as raw, sharp (unscratched!) and true as the first time !!
Time to let it go - to someone, somewhere - who can now hear it - and make better use of it - than me.

TECH SPEC! ...

CONDITION - The Metal Box Once bright and shiny, time and handling has tarnished the outer surfaces - as you would expect (and, I'm sure,
as John Lydon would want/hope) ... but, compared to what you normally find on sale out there, this ORIGINAL box is in above average ("Very Good (plus)") condition. We're not talking coatings of rust and bumps and dents here; just the effect on the aluminium
of the atmosphere and its vulnerability to finger prints, handling, etc.
And you'll find that the original <Metal Box 1> sticker is still in place on the base.
CONDITION - The A5 size Tracklist/Lineup Leaflet This is showing some mild discolouration through age - and mildly bruised corners - but otherwise is as original.
CONDITION - The NME Lyric Sheet This is a BONUS inclusion ... so not really subject to scrutiny ... but comes as a typical tear-sheet from the New Musical Express: some wear and tear to the corners, and crease marks ... but it was probably bundled up and
read on the Tube on the way home - so what can you expect!
CONDITION - The Paper Dividers The four original paper dividers are all here - and in excellent, sharp-edged, generally cared-for condition.
A spot of tarnish in the centre of the bottom one.
CONDITION - The Vinyl
All three vinyl discs are in excellent ("Near Mint") condition.  All surfaces have been kept carefully cleaned and (as humanly possible) dust-free.
Under scrutiny of  my 'natural light' task lamp, there are no scratches - simply minor flecks - but I believe
these are typical 'cosmetic' / manufacture vinyl marks.
Having play-tested all sides and can report a flaw-free performance: no skips, scratches or degradation of sound. Sound quality is uncompromising 'bump and grind' bass and drum - so let's hope your speakers are up to the job!
CONDITION - The Record Labels All are in perfect condition (I've shown them all in my images) and reveal few, if any, drunken spindle marks.
OVERALL CONDITION and 'SIGN OFF' ... I have described the content and condition of this item honestly and in good faith ...
... in order that you can be sure that there'll be no nasty surprises!
I am not a record dealer, as I have said, but I have been strictly guided by the Discogs 'Goldmine Standard' grading, by my own visual inspection and by my own test-playing.

Simply and finally:

The VINYL - I would describe as NEAR MINT
The METAL BOX  -  I would describe as VERY GOOD (plus)
