Prince Paul created this “rap opera” (first of its kind) to be a musical film with lots of star power. He enlisted the help of many of his lyricist and DJ friends to appear on this album. Each track and skit follow the story of a young man going through the travails of the drug game to make enough money to record a demo.
The album is considered a classic. At the time of its release pitchfork gave it an 8.7/10 and almost every other review was 4-5 stars / 9/10 / A+. It is still loved for the amazing production, the great acting and skits, and the top notch lyrics by some of the best to ever do it.
