Description

Original 1974 U.S. release of the album by PORTSMOUTH SINFONIA titled "Plays The Popular Classics" on Columbia Records (stereo KC 33049), with sound production and liner notes by BRIAN ENO. According to Eno's liner notes, with a fluctuating membership of up to 50 members, the orchestra is represented by members from the full range of musical competence, some members playing difficult instruments for the first time and others at the trained concert level. The results are a mesmerizing cacophony, which attains it's own beauty. Includes selections by Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Strauss, Bach, Bizet and Holst. A unique cultural artifact.

Vinyl is VG+, nice and shiny, with a few small fingerprints and light smudges, playing with some occasional surface noise in some of the quieter segments, mostly on the outer tracks. Not bad enough to be of great concern, though. Cover is VG, with some creasing along the spines, a larger crease UR, some scuffing and edge wear, and a foil promo stmp on back cover.
