THE RESIDENTS – Duck Stab. MVD Audio MVDS 5452. FACTORY SEALED NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Originally issued in LP form in 1978. This edition issued in 2012. Licensed by The Cryptic Corporation. Duck Stab was originally issued as a 7-track 7” EP in early 1978 with the intention of following it, later in the year, with another 7” EP titled Buster And Glen. Instead all those tracks were combined on to 1 LP, with the Duck Stab tracks on side one and the Buster And Glen tracks on side two; which is what you are getting on this release. Includes a free download code (that, and I am guessing here, gives you access to the 4 bonus tracks that were included on the 1987 CD release, or at least something as good, or is that W.E.I.R.D.). TRACKS:  Constantinople, Sinister Exaggerator, The Booker Tease, Blue Rosebuds, Laughing Song, Bach Is Dead, Elvis And His Boss, Lizard Lady, Semolina, Birthday Boy, Weight-Lifting Lulu, Krafty Cheese, Hello Skinny, and The Electrocutioner. DESCRIPTION:  Duck Stab!/Buster & Glen is an album released in 1978 by The Residents. It is often called Duck Stab!, after Duck Stab!, a seven-song EP released earlier in 1978 featuring shorter songs similar to the first side of Fingerprince, which was their preceding album issued in 1977. Buster And Glen was intended to follow Duck Stab!, but instead became the B-side of the LP version with the former release as the A-side. The 1995 Euro Ralph CD reissue of the album included Duck Stab! and Buster And Glen as two separate 3" mini CDs, marking the first and only time where the latter has been presented as a standalone EP as originally intended. This may slightly confuse the newbie (of which I am not) with the mixing of short form and extended form of this title, but for purposes here we are speaking in terms of music in total.

Residents fans fall into dozens of camps when it comes to their personal favorite works by these curious pop parodists with the odd eyeball outfits. Some prefer Third Reich N Roll's distortion of 60s rock classics; others find the Commercial Album's blatant non-commercialism satisfying, while several Residents fans--all perhaps members of subspecies of the marmot groupings--actually prefer the Mole Show and can recite its story (a skill no doubt as valuable as the ability to speak Klingon or to memorize major motel chain toll free numbers). A personal favorite of mine happens to be the Eskimo album, if that matters. To see/hear the Residents at their most intriguing, though, one cannot do much better than the Duck Stab/Buster And Glen album (The Residents music is very visual, hence my use of the word see; after submerging yourself in their music shut your eyes sometime while listening to one of their works and see what visuals your mind projects on to the inside of your eye lids). The highlight of this work, Constantinople, is a droning bit of whimsy whose effect is sufficiently hypnotic as to make you peruse the record for evidence of subliminal backwards masking. As is typical of the work, the entire album is synthesizer-laden, filled with ominously non-sensical lyrics, and a range of parody and homage which includes styles as diverse as 50s Elvis-style rock, the invented musics of Harry Partch, jazz which alternates between pre-bop and Sun Ra and veers into Beefheart-esque territory. If you have not "bought into" the Residents, this is an excellent port of entry--it's sophisticated and yet very D.I.Y., musically complex and yet arguably as much a product of Shreveport as San Francisco; eerie yet soothing. The Residents are aided by the talents of Snakefinger (aka Phil Lithman) and Ruby, guest vocalist on The Electrocutioner. SIDE BAR:  Here’s another clue for you all:  look at the lower right corner of the back of the cover.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

RETURN POLICY:

NON-ARRIVAL OF PACKAGES:

It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal system it is beyond my control. With First-Class Package International Service my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country. NOTE:  Based on recent buyer feedback, International packages have been moving much slower these days; it is not unusual for a package to take over three weeks for delivery, though normally packages should arrive in 7 to 15 business days.
