Hi, I am Mike, I am 46 and have been a music collector and enthusiast for over 33 years now. We all wish we could turn back the clock and buy those wonderful brand new records from the 60s and 70s, but alas, this is not possible; so I always try to offer the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. No vinyl/music lover really would choose to buy second-hand, but this is only way now to own these valuable, prized and ellusive items now. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirity, not just bits to guess a grade (on a Rega 3 deck with Ortofon cartridge) - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story - I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested reader – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get. The only thing I cannot guarantee one hundred percent is exact colour matching - this depends on the lighting at the time and that is out of my control, but I feel sure most items will be very close to the actual real item. Variation can sometimes occur too in colour of the label scans and labels taken next to the sleeve with a digital camera, the scanned full label pictures should be the most accurate. If any picture I take looks more flattering than the actual item for any reason, I will clearly state the fact in the advert. Label/Format: Harvest (classic yellow and green format).

Label Condition: Pristine mint examples, this record came to me unplayed, yes that’s right unplayed. The owner had three copies, why I dont know, I did not ask. This pair of Harvests must be the cleanest and freshest I have ever seen, they remain simply like new! (Please see label scans for all information needed).

Mono or Stereo: Stereo.

Country of Manufacture: Gt Britain

Rarity: A relatively common record, but let’s be clear about any copy of Meddle. This is a record I dont give a jot about what pressing it is - I rank this album as one of the very hardest to find on vinyl that will play well. I clearly remember my trip to my local record shop in the very early 70s, I was still at school, I bought this album and had to take it back to the shop three times in a desperate bid to find a copy that did not sound like a bowl of Rice Crispies or bacon frying - this was a notorious bad pressing even from the very early days - I never did find a perfect copy in those early days. I feel what is more important is to find a lightly played copy (or better still one like this that has now received one play - my myself for grading that includes a superb cover. Because the cover is as fragile and delicate as the record. When the two are found looking and sounding like this copy its quite a rare item in real terms. How many times do you see this at fayres just to have the delicate soft textured cover ringworn, rubbed or even split?, the record marked and never knowing what it will play like? Well this is a splendid copy, not quite perfect but it might just be the best looking and sounding copy you will find that’s fully guaranteed for a long time. The brilliance and importance of the record (and cover) demands a fine copy and this is such a copy and I regard it as a scarce item these days.

Original Year of Release: 1971 (not a good time for some vinyl pressings due to the oil crisis around this time, later pressings of this one were often superior).

Matrix Nos: SHVL 765 A-7 and B-6

Brief Artist & Album Info: No long history lesson here, most interested collectors will know this classic Floyd album, suffice to say, its a delicate album all round. Very quiet intros to both sides, very quiet passages in the sublime ‘Echoes’, this record takes no prisoners in hiding blemishes and defects so a clean quiet pressed album is one to treasure and this fits the bill better than most I have heard. My play-grade which ‘run-in’ this record was a joy, the super clean sound and detail from this standard pressing of this album was a revelation - a copy with minimal surface sounds, pops and ticks do exist, and this copy was a real pleasure to listen too. And just for good measure it has a superb cover with very little wear traces at all and that’s no mean feat these days either.

Cover Grade and Format: EX+++, as close to Mint(-) as I dare go. Its a gatefold format, no laminate. It has the delicate soft card and finely textured finish that’s so very prone to wear (of all sorts). It has its patent number and was printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Apart from some very minor and light edgewear this is in connoisseur territory condition - a real beauty that laughs at most others around.

Cover Front: As close to perfect as they get, deep rich colour and not even a hint of any rubbing, creasing or dreaded ringwear. Clean and attractive this one came from the same source as that Mint Dark Side of the Moon I sold recently on Ebay. Indentation and virtually mark-free this front cannot realistically be beaten.

Cover Back: Pretty much the same again, the odd pin-prick mark if you really want to find something, but pair-up with the front, this cover will take a heck of a lot of beating.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Close to perfect again.

Top Edge: Just very light rubbing, nothing heavy at all.

Bottom Edge: The faintest of faint rub traces, they dont get much lighter than this on Meddle covers.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, sharp with no wear or feathering - never take this for granted either. Record entered on right outside back edge.

Spine and Text: Solid and square with minimal wear, a couple of small chips near the top, text is perfect and unworn, again unusual these days.

Corners: All four show little wear, a microscopic crease the front, bottom tip is about all the real wear there is. All still nicely shaped too.

Cover Summary: A fantastic all round example of this incredibly fragile early 70’s cover, one that could prove hard to find much better. This super strong and attractive cover should please just about all realistic collectors, sensitive enough to realise how frail this one is - lets face it its over 30 years old now.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: Visually Mint, its still looks like its just been bought. A superb copy left in a time-warp. Super clean, shiny and jet black, with the sheen and lustre of a new record. Barely a mark to be seen, this looks really lovely. A copy with 0.1 on the playometer, there cant be that many left around like this. Visually a super record that should please all collectors again.

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Even knowing this was unplayed, I still had to give it a listen especially after my experiences of this album all those years ago - and I know for a fact I was not the only person who had trouble finding a clean, quiet copy from way back. So to be honest it came a nice surprise that this copy actually does play really well - I will never say silent because I truly believe a dead silent Meddle is unlikely to exist for its entire playing time, its just too quiet and any little crackle or surface trace must sound especially if played at high volume. But this copy must be best I have yet heard, surface sounds were minimal and as light as I can imagine. No scratches = no ticks or clicks, I could actually enjoy this after a short time with the confidence nothing horrible was going to hit me and that proved 99.95 per cent right. Sound was clean and clear and totally free of distortion and groove wear - as it should be for a record this ‘new’. So not only a cleaner pressing than most, it has remained free of vintage needle wear too. If anyone has a noisy copy of this and needs to upgrade, this could be the one or simply if for some strange reason your missing it altogether, you are unlikely these days to find one much better. I will never, ever say this album will play silent and this may just realistically be as close as you will ever get.

Mono vs Stereo, an overview: Always a matter of opinion which is better or more important. For any serious collector where there is a choice e.g. Beatles, Stones, Hendrix etc. both are essential. True Stereo albums give great imagery and presence whereas mono albums usually are more dynamic, louder and present the detail more clearly. Mono albums are far harder to find in genuinely top playing condition. Most were heavily played, particularly the truly great bands and artists, often covered in mark and scratches, many severe and labels that were a mass of spindle marks. The majority were played on vintage and unsubtle decks with heavy tonearms and thick styli (often sapphire, not diamond, that chipped more easily) that rendered heavy wear in a very short time to many a fine classic record. Wear to the delicate groove walls, particularly the innermost tracks to the labels were most vulnerable where the tracking angle became more severe and the backdrag actually stripped the delicate groove walls. This resulted in surface noise and mild/moderate distortion or worse. These old decks tracked by sheer weight and little of any refined engineering. Next time you see such a deck at a local record fayre, feel the weight of the arm, it almost makes you wonder how any records survived at all. The point of this paragraph is emphasise that when a truly clean, lightly played and great sounding 60s mono album (or stereo come to that) is offered, treasure it, because for sure they are truly getting vary rare and precious - beware - demand only play-graded records. As a general guide to rarity, mono was the far more common format from 61–65; Around 66–67 the balance was roughly equal, then from 68-69 the balance swung more to stereo, making monos from these dates far scarcer, even rare - this guide is important and effects values greatly.

Album Played For Grading: Yes - I just had too.

Final Summary: One of these days the perfect Meddle will come along, a totally off the shelf cover and a record that will play CD quiet - but I probably wont live that long and I wont hold my breath. So in the meantime, in the real world this copy will do just fine - if at sometime you have tried to find a clean playable copy of this one and failed, this I feel will give you the confidence to listen to this classic again via the vinyl source - even with the odd minor blemish it still outclasses other formats – Mike.

All records are sent in plastic covers with the record taken OUT of the sleeve and sent in professional mailers with FOUR professional stiffners for extra protection (if space allows), I do NOT use old cardboard boxes or cereal packets for protection. More expensive items are also inserted into a de-luxe heavy duty padded bag AS WELL to give that extra protection. I truly want ALL my items to arrive to their destination in the same condition they leave me. I will also include in most cases a brand new lined inner, but will include the original inner if available and in a condition to be worthwhile.
