Pink Floyd : Soundtrack From The Film 'More' 1G/1G 1st Press One EMI Box / Green Tinted Cover / Facing West
This original first pressing plays to a superb standard with a clarity, depth and warmth that can hardly be faulted. So many of the tracks play perfectly and even where I have graded three tracks as Ex+ the vast majority still plays with exceptional clarity. An album with so many quiet passages there are so many highlights, too numerous to mention! As always a 'complete' grading is given below.
The vinyl is visually stunning and has clearly only been very lightly played. With barely any spindle wear the labels are incredibly clean. The 'green tinted' cover is also in great condition as is the original inner sleeve.
This first pressing has the ever elusive and very collectable G1 stamper on S1 and a single A on S2. Pinkfloydarchives has this as the second 'stamper' off the printing press and is therefore one of the earliest produced and rarely found as stunning as this. The first pressings only had one EMI box on the labels plus 'Made in Gt Britain - Sold In U.K. Subject...' around the bottom edge of each label. The back cover is green tinted and the couple are facing west as opposed to east on later copies.
SCX 6346 // YAX 3868 - 1G / YAX 3869 - 1G // G 1 / A
The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T1 & T3 Ex+ / T6 Near Mint)
The audio on S2 is Mint(-) (T4 Ex+)
The cover is a very strong Ex
The labels are Near Mint
The original EMI inner is Ex+
Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition with an immaculate glossy sheen and there are no marks or scratches. There are only a small number of insignificant sleeve removal hairlines and there is nothing that stands out, it really is a superb looking vinyl! The run out grooves are super clean also as are the one box EMI labels which only have 3/4 small faint spindle traces on S2 and nothing on S1! A stunning example!
Play grading
The very quiet 'birdsong' intro on 'Cirrus Minor' plays so clearly with only the bare minimum of light static for a few seconds and of course is not intrusive, you can hear the cuckoo perfectly! As the acoustic guitar comes in soon followed by Gilmour's vocal the playback is just as impressive with only three static ticks being the most obvious background. It continues to play with great clarity and the long instrumental end section has only a few intermittent light background ticks which again do not impact on the quality of the listen. The vast majority of this section plays with stunning clarity. Overall I would say Ex+ is a fair assessment of the audio.
'The Nile Song' plays with genuine power and depth throughout with no sign of any interference. You can turn it up to max with no fear of distortion which is a rarity for this first pressing! This is without question a Mint version.
'Crying Song' has barely any static on the intro which is again very quiet... as we all know. The opening vocal is stunning and from then on plays to the same high end standard with no intrusion. Some mega light background ticks but I only mention them to be complete with my grading, they are so quiet. 4 or 5 near the end that are perhaps a little more obvious but certainly not clicks! Let's say Ex+ but the majority is better than that!
The percussive intro on 'Up The Khyber' is close to perfect with only a couple of minor ticks and from then on plays with stunning quality and no interference. This instrumental is Mint- for sure.
The gentle intro on 'Green Is The Colour' plays beautifully with only a couple of barely audible ticks and the opening vocal is equal to that. It continues to play with sublime clarity for the remainder with NO interference. A STUNNING version that easily grades as Mint- which isn't bad for a quiet track - remember this vinyl is 54 years old next month! Another super quiet intro on 'Cymbaline' and another perfect one! The first vocal and chorus are just as clean and the second verse has only 4/5 minor ticks which are very much in the background. The rest of the track is nigh on perfect with only a couple of quiet ticks and the end instrumental is superb with no background of any kind. I will grade as Near Mint but even that may be a little harsh.
The percussive 'Party Sequence' ends the side with flawless audio and Mint is very much deserved.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So often the first few grooves play with some interference especially on one this old but the quiet intro on 'Main Theme' is stunning with only one minor tick. There is no background static whatsoever. As the music comes in there are a handful of dust ticks and from then on it plays with wonderful clarity and depth and... no interference. There is just nothing that detracts from the stunning sonic quality here and in all honesty it plays 'as new' that's how clean and precise the audio is. There are a couple of static ticks on the fade out but I truly believe this long instrumental deserves a Mint- grading.
As per the other 'heavy' track 'Ibiza Bar' plays with great power and definition from start to finish with no interference. Another Mint track. 'More Blues' is another quiet number that impresses on so many levels. Clarity of sound is the first thing we all look (hear) for and I am pleased to say it plays with outstanding clarity with no intrusion of any kind. Mint
The intro on 'Quicksilver' has only a couple of dust ticks and thereafter plays with stunning clarity. A long and very quiet instrumental of course and yet there is barely anything that intrudes on the sound quality. There are a couple of minor very dull clicks just beyond the half way mark plus another slightly more obvious one soon after but the vast majority really does play with exceptional quality. I will grade as Ex+ but there really is a lot to admire here!
'A Spanish Piece' plays with sublime precision from the first note to the last with no interference. Mint
'Dramatic Theme' ends the album with great clarity once more. There are no negatives and again Mint is deserved.
In summary this genuine first pressing plays to a superb standard with hardly any intrusion and the clarity of sound is so impressive when you consider how many quiet sections there are. Yes there are 3 light clicks on S2 but that is the only 'obvious' interference across the entire album. It's rare to find such an early first press with a G1 stamper playing as well as this and I am sure the winning bidder will not be disappointed with the sonic quality on offer here. A lovely cover also!
The Cover & Inner Sleeve,
This G & L first press cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear. The edges and thin pinched spine are superb with no marking / rubbing and the corners are also extremely clean with barely any wear. The opening edge has only the bare minimum of handling wear. The laminated front cover has only 3/4 minor creases around the edges and a few small ones next to the spine which is customary with laminate plus one very small mark and a tiny crease top left. The 'green tinted' back cover with the couple facing west / right is so clean with no obvious marking and the flipbacks are still firmly attached to the cover. They have very little of the marking around the edges that you so often see and there really are no negatives. An Ex cover at the very least, a fine example and rarely seen this good.
The original die-cut inner advertising 16 LPs on each side is in great condition with no side splits or tears, barely any marking and only minimal creasing.
