Description

PINK FLOYD

ARNOLD LAYNE

Factory Sample single with UK promo sleeve.

Pink Floyd's debut single released back in 1967 had promotional copies sent out to all the major radio stations with the infamous 'THIS IS IT!   ..... THE NEXT PROJECTED SOUND OF '67' sleeve.

Unfortunately for the promoters there wasn't enough of the red/white labelled demo copies to go with the sleeves so they sent out factory sample singles in their place.

The ratio was about 50% according to an article I read a few years ago.  What we have here is one of those Factory Sample singles in the original promo sleeve.

The sleeve can be told apart from fakes partly because all the text is in pink print and partly from the paper used for the sleeve.

The inside of these sleeves is also pink, which is true here.

The single itself is a stock copy with a Factory Sample - Not For Sale sticker placed over the Columbia symbol on Side One.

This makes it one of the earliest issues to come off the presses, as you would expect for a promo/factory sample.

Condition:
THE RECORD:
Visually there are a couple of light scuff marks on it, which are not deep and do not adversely affect the playing of the single.  There are also hairline marks on the single which are quite small in number, I would grade this a strong VG

There are a fair few spindle marks on the label that would indicate that its been played several times, the record could probably benefit from a professional clean.

Play grade VG/VG+ with some background crackle present, may be partly or fully removed with a clean

THE SLEEVE
The sleeve has become a little creased over the years with a bit of ring marking and some edge scuffing.

There are no seam splits and no tears and no writing on it either, would still look great displayed.

The pictures appear to have the pink text somewhat washed out but this is NOT the case, the text is still the 'pastel' pink that it was originally.

All in all, this is a very rare item that doesn't come up for sale all that often.

I purchased it in 1993 from a small record fair in Wiltshire (UK) and it has held pride of place in the collection since then but now I think someone else should get enjoyment from it.

Due to the value of this record, postage is only being offered insured.  You can rest assured that it will be well packed but whereever it goes it is going to be tracked and insured.

If you have any questions regarding this single, feel free to ask.
