Description
Animals A2/B3 (very early pressing)
The A2/B3 were pressed in conjunction with the A2/B2 ones so are often considered as first pressings also. This A2/B3 vinyl is in wonderful condition and plays with immaculate audio. The lyric inner also has no splits which is very very rare :-)

Visual grading
This vinyl is visually in exceptional condition. There is only one tiny spindle line on S1 and no spindle wear on S2 at all. The record has obviously only been played once or twice judging by its visual quality and the audio. Unsurprisingly there are no hairlines of any note and there are definitely no scratches and it retains a fantastic glossy sheen even after 40 years. It is probably the best A2/B3 vinyl I have ever seen.
Play grading
'Pigs on the Wing1' begins S1 with extremely clear audio and only a 3/4 barely audible 'dust ticks'. There is no crackle at all and this is a high quality start to an often under-rated LP. The intro to 'Dogs' plays with Near Mint quality such is the clarity here. There is just a hint of static in a couple of places that the majority of 'listeners' would not be concerned about. The overriding impression is one of sheer quality. The track continues to play with high end audio. The long keyboard section for example plays with remarkable quality and no 'background' whatsoever. The remainder plays with a stunning quality rarely heard on an A2/B3 press and even the ending plays with a lot less distortion than is commonly heard on these early pressings.
'Pigs (Three Different Ones)' plays with stunning clarity from the first note and practically plays as new. Just the odd dust tick but this is obviously not intrusive. Once the vocals begin the audio is of the highest standard possible. Turn it up loud the bass sounds great on this LP! There is a some very light static in a couple of the quieter sections but in all honesty it is so much in the background as to be negligible and 100% non-intrusive. The audio plays with a superb quality which is so rarely found on these very early pressings. The clarity and depth do not disappoint. The guitar section at the end plays exceptionally well. The 'Sheep' intro has 3/4 dust ticks and for 40 year old vinyl it plays incredibly well for such a quiet passage. Thereafter the audio is stunning and to my ears is Near Mint without a doubt. The power and resonance has not diminished after all these years and it really is a fabulous listen. The ending plays with such strength and clarity and with no distortion whatsoever. 'Pigs On The Wing2' ends the side with immaculate audio and no 'background' at all, a stunning end. For a final track on the side to play with such clarity is just so rare and the quality here is of Mint standard.
In summary the audio here is of supreme quality for an A2/B3 pressing. It is so rare to find such an early pressing in this amazing, unplayed condition. Another final upgrade, archive copy I am selling that many sellers would grade as Mint- perhaps. In a way maybe I should as you expect a certain amount of non-intrusive static even on a new vinyl and here it is absolutely minimal.
Gatefold cover
The G & L gatefold cover is in superb condition which is impressive as these are often found in a poor state of repair. The edges are in excellent shape with only a tiny amount of rubbing. The wide spine is 100% legible and remains very clean with only a little rubbing either end. The front cover is just so clean, very rarely found like this, so often it suffers with 'spotting' or worse. There are only a couple of very small creases near the top edge. Other than that it is spotlessly clean and the inside of the gatefold is almost perfect except for a tiny amount of 'spotting'. You have to look very closely so as to see it though! The back cover is immaculate and looks like new. This is one of the cleanest gatefold I have seen in a long time.
It has no bar code as per the early pressings and also has the front edge of the gatefold sealed with a foldunder. In the lower right corner, it says "Made and printed in Great Britain 7701 TM Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd."
Lyric sleeve
The cardboard lyric inner has the rounded corners as per the first pressings and has no splits to the sides, how rare is that?! The left hand edge does have a very small area of rubbing but, as I say, there is no split. One of the cleanest inners I have seen it remains in superb condition.
It has the 9-inch thumb notch on the edge with the catalogue number 'SHVL 815(I) in the lower right corner'.
Labels
They are both in perfect order with only one tiny visible spindle line on S1. The S2 label is in immaculate order with no spindle wear at all. No markings or writing on either side.
