Description
PETER PONTIAC
coverdrawing only -no vinyl-
for b**tleg BOB DYLAN - LITTLE WHITE WONDER, approx. 1970
From what I understand, there are various versions of the Bob Dylan b**tleg LP Little White Wonder (which contained 1967 recordings from the Basement Tapes). Renowned Dutch underground comics artist Peter Pontiac at the time drew the very wonderful cover for what was to become the second version of this record. One of those behind this release was my uncle, who was very much part of the Amsterdam underground scene at the time - Ton Schreuder (himself a musician who was a member of amongst others psych/jazz/avant garde outfit Ahora Mazda, who made an album which is very wanted amongst collectors ... but that's another story altogether). He was also involved in a fair few of those highly sought after early 70's b**tleg albums. My uncle passed away one and a half year ago, way too soon, and he left behind a small treasure of albums.
In his collection was also this unused print of a Pontiac drawn cover. His widow, my aunt, asked me if this might be worth anything to collectors ... I said I'd try, so here it is. The vinyl never made it in there; they simply had a few covers too many back when this was released some 35 years ago. As it is a very nice item on its own even without the vinyl, my uncle never wanted to throw it away. So all those years later, he is gone, but the cover is still here.
This is what I am offering now. The pictures are clear enough I guess. It is NOT a standard LP cover. You can fully fold it out, I assume originally it went -folded- into a transparant protective sleeve as happened more often in the more prehistoric "white albums". So its size is twice the size of a standard LP cover and as a cover it is open at 3 sides, instead of 1 side as is the case with standard covers.
In this case we're not strictly talking an incomplete item here. There was simply a lack of vinyl and a few covers too many and it remained this way. So it was never used as an album cover.
As such it is in excellent condition without much wear apart from very minor wear from the folding. But it looks basically as it did in 1970; no creases or whatever; for the Peter Pontiac or Bob Dylan collector it is a nice collector's item, black and white with a little red. Or ... if you own the original album and the cover is kinda worn from 35+ years shelf wear, here's your chance to replace it with a genuine original cover which was never used and is as pristine as possible. It looks great framed too. I will send this safely in an LP size cardboard box, in order for it to remain in its crease-free state.
