Description
Item up for sale is an extremely rare 10” picture disc and signed 12” insert from Allee Willis’ Big Adventure. Comes in the original plastic sleeve. Paul Reubens signed both his real name and as “Pee-wee Herman,” which was uncommon. I got him to sign the insert page (not the record) at the Phoenix Fan Fusion event on May 25th, 2019. Reubens sadly passed in 2023.
Issued in 1985 on Warner Bros. Records as a promotional 7-inch novelty picture disc (shaped like Pee-wee), it is NOT music from the show or the theme song written by Danny Elfman. Instead, it is a synthesized pop track featuring a sound-collage of Pee-wee's catchphrases, sampled voice clips, and vocal lines over an upbeat electronic rhythm.
Allee Willis—the song-writing force behind hits like Earth, Wind & Fire's "September" and The Rembrandts' "I'll Be There for You" (Friends theme)—was close personal friends with Paul Reubens. They teamed up to create the track as a fun side project to capitalize on the buzz surrounding the release of his feature film.
While the track draws its name and dialogue snippets from Pee-wee's Big Adventure, it stands as a separate, collectible pop-culture artifact rather than a theme song for his TV series or a cue from the movie's orchestral score.
