Description
Nick Drake - Pink Moon.
Original UK LP Issued in 1972 by Island Records (ILPS 9184).
As most Nick Drake fans will know, "Pink Moon" was tragically Nick's final LP, after recording it he unceremoniously dropped the tapes off to Island Records where they sat for sometime under a desk. They duly released it sometime later. Michael Trevithick, a graphic artist and sleeve designer that Island had previously commissioned to design sleeves for Spooky Tooth etc was asked to design the sleeve. His brief was to read the Lyrics to the songs of "Pink Moon" and design a sleeve for it, what he came up with has now become an iconic sleeve that uses imagery taken from the song titles and words on he LP.
This the Original Full Sized Proof Sleeve produced for the LP, a smaller version was produced for Nick Drake and Island to approve which they did, however when they saw the final full size proof that we are selling here they decided that the lettering used for Nick's name on the front wasn't clear enough, they asked the artist to replace it with different lettering, which he did and the sleeve went to press.
This is the only surviving copy of the Original sleeve and it comes with the copy of the LP that was sent to the artist.
It also comes with two letters from Michael Trevithick explaining the story of the changed lettering in much more detail, one of which is stuck to the back side of the sleeve, see pics.
The Proof Sleeve is in Very Good Condition, unlike the finished sleeve it is not stuck at the top or bottom and opens like a gatefold and it has a cut mark above the lettering which has been taped on the back, see pics
The Vinyl is in VG++ Condition (it has light surface/withdraw marks).
