Description

Nathan Davis - Peace Treaty

This is a rare original pressing of a very desirable modern jazz record . The record itself was manufactured in Spain, the cover in France for the SFP label. It is an excellent session that fits musically with the type of hard swinging modernism that Blue Note was putting out in the same period, played by a mixture of expatriate American musicians and a couple of great French players including the always dead cool Rene Urtreger on piano, whom you should at least know for his recordings with Miles Davis and Barney Wilen. The French were right about jazz, and they were right about Iraq too. All of Nathan Davis' original 60s records are very collectible and tough to find these days. This is a very nice copy that appears unplayed. The cover has some bends on all 4 corners due to storage, almost entirely limited to the front, somehow, but nothing that disturbs the artwork and it is not easy to see in the photos. It came to me with the original old style shrink still on the cover, which probably helped cause the creases in the paper, but it also prevented the cover from getting a lot of aging. The back is a fairly bright white. There is no writing or soiling of any kind on the cover. The labels are perfect and have no spindle marks. The LP has only a few superficial hairline marks from the paper sleeve and is very glossy; it's a little dusty, but I didn't want to mess with it too much so I will leave it to the next owner to clean it on the cleaning machine they will probably own, since this is the sort of thing a serious collector will end up with. I would give this a conservative vg++/vg++ rating, but the above detailed description is more useful. Matrix numbers are as follows: a: 10003 A1 b: 10003 B1

recorded May 7 1965 : Nathan Davis -  Woody Shaw - Jean-Louis Chautemps  - Rene Urtreger - Jimmy Woode - Kenny Clarke
