"Edge of time" , Norma Winstone, Argo Stereo ZDA 148, matrix ZRG 3669 1G/ZRG 3670-1G - absolute classic British Jazz LP from 1972, mixed by , amongst others, John Surman & Neil Ardley. Featuring beautiful vocals by Norma Winstone, plus Alan Skidmore, Mike Osbourne and a host of others.
As for condition, the cover is basically very clean, no tears, creases etc, some overall shelf soiling and a dobells price sticker on the back cover, (£2.99 at the time!). Some wear to the spines but no splits.
The vinyl looks very clean, one very superficial surface mark, otherwise looks clean and bright. The labels are clean with a few spindle marks, but clearly lightly played. I've graded down the sound because there is some background when playing. I know these argo recordings aren't renowned for the recording quality, but I suspect what I can hear is more than poor recording. Those who know the lp will appreciate it has many sparse, quieter moments. At times there is background noise that does detract from the listening experience. It could be that a professional clean will make the difference, because I can see no evidence of needle wear, but there's no point in grading it as it looks if it doesn't live up to the description when played. However, I'm not saying it's knackered 'cos it certainly isn't, still a very enjoyable record, and a rare one.
