Morning Of The Earth-Soundtrack of the Film  1972 Australian prog surf soundtrack LP.

It's difficult not to get too carried away when describing the soundtrack album "Morning of the Earth". A sublime collection of songs that has enticed and haunted a generation of surfers and non surfers alike and continues to be played on high repeat on most surf trips around the world today. Probably one of the best "surf music" albums ever made, with excellent musicianship, great production values, and a strong narrative thread although there are actually no words in the movie itself. To paraphrase Alby Falzon "the songs are the story and the dialogue for the film". This album is a brilliant combination of sweet folk and pop music that takes the listener on a rolling tour of emotions that fill the listener with a warm sense of purpose and belonging.

The film's soundtrack was produced by G. Wayne Thomas and included music and songs by noted Australian music acts Taman Shud,John J Francis, Brian Cadd and G. Wayne Thomas himself and one completely unknown person Peter Howe. The popularity of the film was such that the album became the first Australian Gold soundtrack album. The music was a perfect backdrop for the great surfing action on the screen including Baddy Treloar ripping Angourie on a surfboard he handshaped in his backyard, Michael Peterson and Nat Young at Kirra. The excellent soundtrack has helped to make "Morning of the Earth" one of the most popular surf movies of all time.

The film "Morning of the Earth" captured the essence of early 1970's surfing and lifestyle. Albe Falzon's images of Michael Peterson (MP) riding a very short surfboard (approximately 5'9") at Kirra defined a cultural and technical transition in surfing that occurred in the late 60's early 70's. The film caught an important change in surfing style from the fluid, flowing turns of the 1960's to the more "radical" style of MP's quick vertical "re entries",rail edge "cutbacks" and long "tube rides". This new "radical" surfing style was the precursor of the modern professional surfing initially dominated by Australian surfers.

Lable:Warner Bros Cat# WS-20004. Record is visually VG-. Cover is G. This is an ex-radio station copy, there is a large white sticker on the front top LH cnr. There are some tears to the front cover where a 'square' of sticky tape was removed, particularly along the top edge of the square. There is thick cloth sticky tape along the spine. There is some ring wear on the back. The radio station call sign is written on black felt tip pen on the front top RH cnr and in the top centre on the back. Inside the gatefold is VG+ with just some light general wear. There are some letters and numbers written in black felt pen on both sides of the label. (see scans)

Vinyl:
M, mint condition, unplayed, with no marks on playing surface and labels as new.
M-, mint minus, either unplayed, with minimum scuffs caused by paper sleeve, or played once or twice only and still as new.
EX, excellent condition, record played carefully, very clean surface, minimum scuffing. 
VG, very good condition, scuffing or signs of groove wear but no bad scratches. Only minor pops or crackles.
G, good condition, well played with plenty of scuffs, light scratches and groove wear.Noise evident but no jumps.
F, fair condition, playable but heavily scuffed or scratched, with a lot of surface noise. Maybe minor jumps from scratches.

Covers:
M, Mint - As New
Ex, Excellent – Very little ware – no marks or worn corners
VG, Very Good  – some minor wear and some minor marks visible 
G, Good – worn cover, may have creased corners, heavier marks, small tears but still complete
F, Fair – cover is worn and maybe torn.
