Description
My father was a jazz studio musician in the 40's and 50's, and played with some of the greats. His record collection was given to me decades ago by a family friend, and since I've never had much of an interest in jazz they largely sat in storage. I never met my dad, so never cultivated an interest in his music. This holiday season I would be happy to relocate these gems to the homes of collectors who can better appreciate their significance. So I have several listings with vinyl LP's, many very rare, including this one.
There's a story about the collaboration on this album. Miles Davis was, by folklore, a rather difficult personality. My own dad was once thrown out of a studio by him, not sure what the transgression may have been. Anyway, they say that you will never hear, on any of these tracks. Monk playing at the same time as Davis, since Davis demanded he "stand down," whenever Miles played. Not sure where this story came from, but it would be fun is someone could verify it!
Now, as I said, I am not a jazz collector and I am learning as I go on these listings. There is no internal sleeve on this album. I have not played it, and it appears to have a few surface scratches. I am told this is not unusual and can be ameliorated by one who knows how. I am frankly afraid to touch them so I trust if you purchase this item you will have such knowledge.
Do please ask any questions, I will do my very best to answer you. Thank you for looking!
