I am a long-time collector who doesn’t sell much... but every now and then, I shuffle some things around. These records come from my personal collection and have been cleaned and stored with care. I value honesty and I visually grade everything conservatively. I provide notes whenever possible. I never deal in junk, and I aim to treat buyers the same way I would want to be treated as a collector myself. Here is how I understand condition:
Mint (M) – Absolutely perfect in every way. Has never been played and is sealed. I usually deal in older records, so this is a grade I almost never use.
Near Mint (NM) – The record has been on a shelf between other records and has most likely been played at some point, but the vinyl has no marks. For a sleeve, near mint will normally have some slight shelf wear and/or ring wear, but not enough that the sleeve would look bad displayed.
Very Good Plus (VG+/EX) – Vinyl may have some scratches and scuffs, but nothing that would compromise the quality of the sound. The sleeve is in a little worse shape, most likely has ring wear, shelf wear, and maybe a seam split, but still is pleasant to look at.
Very Good (VG) – This record has lived. It may play with pops, clicks, and/or static, but it plays without skips and is still enjoyable to listen to. A VG sleeve is in pretty rough shape. There might be some writing on it, seams split, and/or parts of it may be torn.
Good (G) – Good means bad. If a sleeve is G, it probably looks pretty sad. The vinyl could still play, but it would have static and would pop often. The only G records I sell/collect are rare ones, and even then they are discounted significantly.
